49ers & Cowboys Reportedly Interested In Trading For Eagles RB Ryan Mathews
6 mins ago 49ers, Cowboys, Eagles Leave a comment

Tony Pauline of WalterFootball.com reports that the Cowboys and 49ers are expected to have interest in trading for Eagles RB Ryan Mathews if Philadelphia comes away with Ezekiel Elliott at No. 8 overall.

While the Cowboys could use another running back, Pauline admits that it’s unlikely the Eagleswould want to cut a deal with a division rival.

The 49ers hired Chip Kelly several months ago as their new head coach, so he’s plenty familiar with what Mathews brings to the table as a running back.

Before the start of free agency, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that the Eagles have made it known that they were willing to trade Mathews for the right price.

However, this was before they shipped DeMarco Murray to the Titans.

Mathews, 28, is in the second year of his three-year, $11 million contract that includes $5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $3 million for the 2016 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Mathews would free up $2 million in available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.

In 2015, Mathews appeared in 13 games and ran for 539 yards on 107 carries (5 YPC) to go along with 20 receptions for 146 yards receiving and seven total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 47 running back out of 69 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding a potential trade involving Mathews as the news is available.

Or we could just draft a RB?
Elliott would tear it up here....just saying

Without question. If the Dallas Oline can turn McFadden into a 1000+yard, 4.5ypc RB I think Elliot could do some very special things in Dallas.

Yeah too bad we probably have more pressing needs. I don't know about taking him at 4, but as others have said if he's your guy you take him there anyway

I'm not on the Elliott band wagon especially at 4, but he would be the most Romo Friendly pick. Will not be shocked if he's their prime target.

He's yet to be healthy here, but this is another guy I think could play a big role for us and even start. If he can't get healthy then you need to just cut him and stop waiting. But a 1 tech with some penetration skills would be nice:

Terrell McClain - DL - Cowboys
Cowboys DT Terrell McClain (toe) expects to be ready for the start of the season.

McClain spent the final 14 games on I.R. last year. He’s a candidate for the starting job opposite Tyrone Crawford, but should back up at multiple spots.

Yes, and if a QB isn't planned as an early pick ( Rd 3 or higher) Hoyer could be a nice backup plan. My guess is Denver followed by NY Jets would be the favorites to land him. I'm a little surprised Houston couldn't get at least a 7th from one of the two.

I'd give him a deal today and still draft a QB. One guy for short term and one for long term. We saw how important QB was last year.

I brought up trading for him earlier in the off season, would have likely given a 7th myself, but Im definitely up for signing him now that he's available. Need to have multiple contingency plans IMO

Jason La Canfora confirms the Jets’ interest in veteran QB Brian Hoyer and adds that New York could schedule a visit with him as soon as this week.

———

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Steelers are among the interested teams in veteran QB Brian Hoyer.

Previously reports have linked Hoyer to the Jets, considering that they have yet to get a deal done with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, and don’t appear to be anywhere close to an agreement.

One other speculative option for Hoyer that has come up is the Broncos, who have just Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian on their roster at quarterback.

It will be interesting to see if Hoyer’s market picks up before the draft, or if teams prefer to wait and see what happens before making him their best offer.

Hoyer, 30, was in the final year of his two-year, $10.5 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $5.25 million for the 2016 season. However, no trade surfaced for him, which is why the Texans have elected to release him in a move that will free up $4,859,375 in available cap space.

In 2015, Hoyer appeared in 11 games and accumulated 2,606 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, one interception and completed 60.7 percent of his passes. Pro Football Focus rated Hoyer as the No. 31 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Hoyer and his market as the news is available.

Yeah his stats have been copied and pasted wrong in almost every piece written about him lately, good catch. Maybe one of the numbnuts copying or writing about him will notice it eventually?

Antonio Cromartie Says Playing For Cowboys Would Be His “Dream Choice”
11 mins ago Cowboys 0 Comments

Free agent CB Antonio Cromartie tells TMZ that his “dream choice” would be to play for the Cowboys.

“My dream choice? That’d be the Dallas Cowboys,” Antonio said. “That’s very high on my list.

There has been no buzz regarding Cromartie since free agency opened well over a month ago, so it unlikely he’ll secure an opportunity until after the draft.

Ian Rapoport reported that Cromartie was expected to visit with the Bills, but no visit has taken place up to this point, and even Cromartie said that this was news to him.

Following this release from the Jets, Darryl Slater of NJ.com reported that Cromartie would be interested in re-signing with the Jets at a lower salary, given that he “loves the Jets organization and coach Todd Bowles.”

Bowles didn’t completely rule out a return to New York for Cromartie, but it sounds like they plan to consider other options first.

Cromartie, 31, was in the second year of his four-year, $32 million contract that included $7 million guaranteed when he was released in a move that freed up $8 million in available cap space for the Jets.

In 2015, Cromartie appeared in 15 games for the Jets and recorded 29 tackles, a fumble recovery and 12 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 86 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that free agent QB Brian Hoyer now has “at least” six teams interested in him. However, Caplan doesn’t offer any specifics regarding the other teams.

Hoyer is still visiting with the Broncos on Thursday and met with the Jets earlier in the week.

While there may be six teams interested in him, it’s unlikely that they’re all offering a similar opportunity. If Hoyer were to sign with either the Broncos or Jets, he’d clearly be in the mix for a starting job.

Others have mentioned that teams like the Cowboys and Steelers could be among the interested teams in Hoyer. However, he’d be taking a backup job with these teams instead of competing for a starting role.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Hoyer to a contract wouldn’t factor into a team’s 2017 compensatory picks.

Hoyer, 30, was in the final year of his two-year, $10.5 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $5.25 million for the 2016 season. However, no trade surfaced for him, which is why the Texans have elected to release him in a move that will free up $4,859,375 in available cap space.

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys intend to pick up C Travis Frederick‘s fifth-year option before the draft.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, considering that Fredrick has is among the best centers in the NFL.

The fifth-year option will run the Cowboys $8.8 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Frederick, 25, was taken with the No. 31 overall pick back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $6.8 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,341,822 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Frederick appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and was rated by Pro Football Focusas the No. 1 center out of 39 qualifying players.

Frederick is going to cost Dallas 50 million over 5 years with at least 50% of it guaeranteed. Absolutely worth it too. That guy is a rock. Never envisioned that he would ascend to the top 2-3 at his position so quickly - honestly I never expected it at all.

Wasn't the flashy pick, so to speak, but paying major dividends and hopefully will for years
