Reliever Neil Ramirez signed a minor league deal, with an invite to Spring Training. Was great as a rookie in 2014 with the Cubs. Was the big center piece in the Matt Garza trade back when Matt Garza use to be decent (not the other trade where he was traded for Chris Archer). Dealt with injuries in 2015. Picked up and released by 3 different teams in 2016.

Fastball in the mid-90s when he was healthy in 2014, down to 92 since then. Throws a curveball, slider and changeup.

16 homers allowed in 24 innings pitched in 2016.

Sandoval is owed (assuming his buyout is activated) 59.8M/3y and Cain is owed 28.3M/1y (also assuming his buyout is activated.

Before I would even begin to consider it, they would have to take Cain AND ship 15M to the Giants.

The rumor is totally ridiculous, but Bisbee's idea is that Boston eats $45 million of the $60 million owed Panda.

I think it's a bad idea. Leaving once was enough. Loved the guy as a Giant, but he moved on. He is built now for the DH role now that Big Papi has moved on.

Still, sending Panda to the Giants along with $45 million AND taking Cainer, what's not to like? :D

Hell, I make that trade so fast, it will be official before Boston even thinks to offer it.

But THAT deal ain't happening either.

As SFGRTB said, this is a click-bait rumor, and won't happen.

Maybe he could become a "super" utility player. Give him some reps behind the dish again and play him some at 1st, 3rd and left field? Then, in AL cities, he's the DH! :rolleyes2:

no f'n way....

not sure how many of you guys are in the sf tv area, but this was discussed with local print media guy's at length yesterday on comcast bay area and to a person they pretty much dismissed this as pablo's agent/relative air muffing' a rumor to get some interest in pablo...

All this is true, plus the simple fact that we need relievers and a left fielder with pop, not 3rd basemen and DHs

Did anyone else read this article? - While others tear down, Giants and Royals should be all in for 2017
I like the idea that the team doesn't need a rebuild (despite my emotional statement to the opposite toward the end of the season) but, outside of Cespedes, I don't really see much on the open market for left field. And I really think it would be dumb to replace Panik at 2nd base. I think he just had a down year offensively and he just won a Gold Glove.

I've brainstormed (to myself? On here? I don't recall) about trading Panik for a 3rd baseman or 2nd baseman, and have Nunez man the other position. There are guys out there that make sense. Dozier was definitely someone I thought of, like the article mentions.

Panik has been an odd case. Was 2015 an aberration? I tend to think not because pretty much all of his numbers were on the same pace last year as they were in 2015, except for his BABIP, which was incredibly low. And in 2015, his BABIP was not an outrageous number. It's fair to say he can at least get back to pretty close to 2015 BABIP, and if his rate stats like K%, BB%, ISO, etc. remain steady as they have the last 2 years, he can get back to and upper-echelon 2nd baseman.

Just to play against this, because it is the off season. I do not advocate trading Panik, but Panik's trade value would never be higher than it is now. Gold Glover. Decent bat. Smart. Cheap with salary control for years. And the Giants have a plethora of middle infielders in the wings (Arroyo, KT, Adrianza, Calixte, Gonor, etc). It's not a bad scenario.

We also seem to have a glut of SP just ready to crack the majors: Blach, Blackburn, Stratton, Heston, Beede, etc. Would some of them be trade chips? I think Blach, Blackburn and Beede are the top three, though I suspect Beede will spend 2017 at Sacramento. Blackburn has nothing to prove at AAA, he has excelled at that level for two years, though 2016 was a bit of a down year for him. Blach also has nothing to prove at AAA, and had a great showing with his cupo in the bigs late in the season.

I could see another team trying to downplay Panik's value because of his offensive numbers in 2016 versus 2015.

Did you see the names the author suggested get shipped to bring back Dozier? The price seems steep, if that is truly what it would take to get him. Plus, Dozier's trade value has never been higher. If Panik's offense is being questioned due to a down year, then Dozier's offense should also be questioned. Was 2016 a fluke or the start of a few peak seasons?

Don't know if you posted about that idea before but considering Panik's BABIP was incredibly low, I'd think that Panik should bounce back to something closer to 2015 in 2017.

Cespedes back to the Mets. 4 years, $110M.

Some Giants fans are mad about this, but I don't think there was ever a big possibility of him leaving New York.
