I'd like to see Suh, Collins, Reynolds, Fairley, Mosley, Fluellen, Johnson, Tapp, Palmer, Mathis, Vaughn, Abdul-Quddus, Prater, Muhlbach, and Bynes all re-signed.

Not all of these guys are key contributors, but they're all at least capable reserves who all know the system. Reynolds, Fluellen, and Tapp all could easily be beat out in camp by rookies, or free agents, or younger guys (Larry Webster), but all three are cheap insurance options whom I'd like to see signed to one year deals to get them in to camp at least.

Letting guys like Quddus, Bynes, and Palmer walk away weakens our depth. A-Q looked pretty capable this year and is a great insurance policy at safety. Bynes played surprisingly well for us this year, and while Palmer isn't an ideal starter, he's a solid reserve and core special teamer.

Sure, the big names are the sexy ones to talk about, but depth is key for any team planning on making a serious run. When it's time for "next man up" I'd love that next man to be someone with at least some track record to fall back on.

At the very least a lot of these guys I mentioned are they types you bring back to camp to push the rookies and new arrivals in order to field the best team we can...

No offense taken, man. Its all good debate. I definitely don't want to come off like the role players mean nothing. Its all in correlation to success and how you think it compares with Suh, combined with associated values. I really don't think you guys are wrong. Its just my opinion that Suh is more important.

To say these guys know the system, and that's why they're important, well, this was a first year system, on defense, and we hit the ground running right out of the gates. I think its because we have a nice core with Ziggy, Suh, Quinn, and Slay. Mathis, Mosley, and Digs were important too. IMO, with seeing all the numbers, and taking into account what Mayhew has said, I think we can bring back Mosley and Mathis whether we tag Suh or not. But again, IMO, if we bring all those guys back and not Suh we will be rebuilding.

Well thank you captain obvious!

Suh is waaaaay more important, but we gotta focus on both re-signing Suh and re-signing as many of these guys as we can. This isn't an either-or kind of thing...

A lot of guys on that list on would like to see back. Most of them on one year vet deals though. Fairley, Mosley, Johnson, and Prater are the only ones I see a need for multi year deals on.

I'd try to get Quddus and Bynes on team-friendly 3 year deals. They're both young and ascending and should still come fairly cheaply. Great depth and both showed that they can start if needed.

Other than that, yes, all one year deals, imo...

One player on there makes a difference. Two if you count kickers as players.

I would think BJ Raji would come cheap after missing this season as well as Mike Jenkins. Both would be good guys to take flyers on if they came cheap.

If the Lions don't draft a developmental QB I would mind seeing Jake Locker get a chance to develop as a backup or they bring Shaun Hill back.

Only players I want to see re-signed off that list are.... in order

Suh.... only by extending, not tagging him

Prater

George Johnson (he is must for me at DE)

CJ Mosley (he played well enough while Fairley was gone)

Abdul-Quddus (I was surprised by his play while Ihedigbo was out, he's still young and learning)

Mathis (but only as a nickle-back, he's lost a step and you can fuckin cut Bill "P.I./D.H" Bentley, all while shopping for a proven #2 CB... meaning Slay is our #1.... need to draft 1-2 CB's this year).

Anyway we get that list with their previous monies? Curious to know potential cost for Re-signing.

TP and I appear to be on the same page when it comes to value per dollar on some of the bottom tier contracts.

What you havee is actually my required resignings list, but I think we need a few more of the other guys for backups. The guys you listed will most likely be starters except Quddos who can play either safety position and probably a future starter.

I'm kind of interested in Denver's LG Orlando Franklin. He's coming off his 4th year at Denver and is versatile (could play either G position or RT in an emergency), tall, long arms, decent at pass pro, better at run blocking (imo). If he can be coached up and improve his technique, he might be worth looking at.

I'd still rather see a combo OT/OG drafted............ but

He was intriguing coming out, and the versatility to play guard or tackle is a big bonus. I'd be happy to bring him in, depending on his price tag of course.

I, too, liked him coming out of college (THE "U") as well. I always noticed he was late off the snap. I'm pretty sure that was a huge knock against him . He really never met/exceeded the expectations while in college. Price tag is definitely a major part of the equation along with, does he fit into the teams complexity of their O-Line scheme.

Lombardi might want to take a 2nd look at his x's and o's of his blocking schemes. I mean, Hilliard won that job outright over Waddle and both Sims/Raiola stated, during the bye week, of how complex the scheme was to learn. Hilliard, Sims and Raiola had all been in the league for at least 9 yrs (approx.) or more individually. A great coach will know when and how to build a scheme that works with the talent at hand. It wasn't ever working properly this year, at all.

:dingdingding:

Funny they said it during the bye week too because I mentioned it like a week or 2 before that it looked like the O-Line had no clue who was supposed to block who. Stunts and blitzes killed them.

Hopefully, at least the scheme changes next year and the line will be better no matter who is out there.

Why do so many people want Prater back? His numbers were ok ish, but it was very obvious the coaches didn't trust him. Very obvious. I'd rather have a worse kicker that the coaches trusted, let them call the game normally rather than altering what they do based on not trusting the kicker.

A bit too early for me- I like to let the season end and give teams a chance to sign guys in order to get a sense of who will really be available come March.

He says as he comments about who to get, haha

That being said, I'm pretty sure Jonathan Stewart is going to be a free agent, and he finished the season on a tear. He could be a low-cost, quality addition at RB. I like his north-south style and the way he punishes tacklers. I'd love to see us add another big RB to go with Bell, and another speed guy to go with Riddick...
