And to think, if the Oilers don't win their last game of the season (a meaningless game against the Flames), they would have won the lottery and could have selected Patrick Kane. Instead, they leap-frogged Chicago and well, the rest is history.

Hmm... strange move but I hope they do it. The Devils could use a Sam Gagner.

Yeah, he would look great there on a line with Anisimov and Rychel.

Obviously only time will tell for sure how the deal works out, but as of right now I'm not a fan.

Buffalo needs a goalie and the prospect cabinet is a bit bare there, but I feel like the first was too much.

If I'm Chiarelli I might consider a Lindros scenario.

#1 overall to Phoenix for #3, #30, Ekman-Larsson and Mikael Boedker.

Use the #3 to draft Strome or Marner and the Oilers have a pretty awesome young core, IMO.

If that make sense, why not

#1 for #4, #24, Phaneuf (plus a couple mil to subsidize the salary), Kadri and Reimer?

Shanny has said in the last 24 hours that they are looking at moving up or down in the draft. Up?? Unless he is full of crap, just what is he looking at? Moving to #3 isnt worth it at all, so is there ANY possibility that #1 or #2 could be had?

Or is Shanny just blowing smoke?

Welll... because the best piece going to the Oilers in the Arizona deal, by far, is OEL. Take him out and the Oilers core is still missing a #1 D that will grow with the team. Phaneuf sure as shit doesn't fit that bill.

EDIT: Sorry if you were actually kidding around.

Not really, but I see your point. Thank you for not crapping on me as a "Crazy Leaf fan who, as always, wildly overestimates their players".

Would Gardiner instead of Phaneuf (hell, maybe both) be more attractive? And Hanifin or some of the other D will be around at #4

Gardiner would probably be slightly more attractive but not OEL level. Rielly might get a discussion started but he still does not have the valuie that an established OEL does. One of the few established top-pairing D who is young enough to make the Oilers think about giving up the #1 this year.

OEL
Karlsson
Doughty
Subban

That's about the extent of them I would think.

But don't despair!! The Oilers might accept that package for next year's #1 overall.
