Well, somebody Skype Chiarelli and tell him to pee or get off the pot.

You can Skype with Chiarelli while he's peeing but he charges extra.

Okposo would be a great add for a lot of teams. I'd like Ottawa to get him.

I think the Leafs are going to have to eat some serious salary in order to move Kessel. Also, I don't think Florida was on Kessel's list.

Admittedly I am a homer, but I just dont see this. If that is what it takes, the Leafs keep him another year. The salary demands for 30+ goal scorers is only going up, and in a year's time, Kessel's contract won't look as bad as you think it does now.

Panthers still don't seem interested in Phil Kessel. I'm hearing Leafs demands are ridiculous. #flapanthers

I never understand the thought process "big deals are easier at the draft then in February/March". I think the Leafs get more for Kessel at the trade deadline then they do now. If a team needs someone to put the puck in the net (and many of them do), they should be considering Kessel. Apparently in June, teams think everyone of their 12 forwards are named Gretzky. Even though a couple weeks ago, they couldnt score to save their season (cough cough Montreal, NYR, etc). Fine dont pay up for K-dog. You will be begging for him after 50 games.

The bolded part is not a bad plan 'B', in my opinion.

Kings temperaraly have gained 4 mil in cap space by suspending Vovnov without pay during the offseason.
Gives them some room at the Draft and July 1. A little shady but clever.

It will be interesting to see what the free agent forwards get this year. There's not one that's anywhere close to Kessel, and yet I bet there will be a few that get almost as much money as the difference between Kessel's $8 mil and the "serious eaten salary".

Hell, more like about a week's time

Maybe so if he was ever actually offered to the Panthers he could make sure they weren't still bottom-feeders. Doubt he'd reject a trade to a state where it's 80 in January and there is no state income tax.

I wonder what the Leafs are asking from them though. Definitely the first round pick, and I'm guessing (if they're well and truly shocked by the demands) Bjugstad or Huberdeau?

Like BGD says and I've said all along, if that isn't the kind of package he can get right now keep him for another year. If they put him with Kadri for a full season I bet he at least gets back to the 30g/70p norms he's usually capable of and if 5v5 scoring continues to trend downward I'm sure the Leafs can get the return they want in March or next June.

Not shady at all. He was suspended because of the injury, not the assault right? Do what you gotta do.

Because the Leafs are asking for way too much

If the Panthers gave up Nick Bjugstad or Jonathan Huberdeau along with a first round pick and another possible piece, Dale Tallon would get justifiably destroyed for it - Phil Kessel is one of the better goal scorers in the league but he's only going to help a team get over the top - if you have to dismantle your roster and give up your best players to get him, why would you do that?

The problem with some of those other teams, like the Rangers is that they don't have a god damn asset to deal in order to get a player like Kessel because they've been flushing those assets down the toilet for years

People have to realize that it has to be a perfect situation in order for a trade of that caliber of a player to happen - teams have to be right there on the cusp of a cup where that one player can change the dynamic of their team - and that team needs to have the assets to get a deal done - for example, the Panthers have the assets but even if they do have a marked improvement next season and make the playoffs, they'd most likely wouldn't be a true cup contender just yet

Besides, the Panthers aren't trading someone they just gave a long term extension to AND they sure as hell won't trade Huby because him, Jagr and Barkov have AMAZING chemistry and that line wrecked the rest of the league in the last month of the season - why break that up?

He's obviously older and not quite on the same level of scoring but if I'm teams that see the price tag for Kessel and get scared off, I give a call to Ray Shero and see what the availability of Mike Cammalleri is. Guy put up 27 goals in 68 games for a Devils team that was down right horrific offensively.

Mike probably doesn't factor into the Devils plans long term, very reasonable cap hit for the next 4 years. Could likely be had for far, far cheaper than Kessel and could probably still give you that extra boost to get you over the edge if you're close.
