That's perhaps a bit unfair. Probably more fair to say he shouldn't be making nearly the money that he is.I really hope you understand Clarkson "thriving" was him getting 17 goals and 29 points a season (those are his numbers in NJ excluding his time in Toronto, btw). When you look at it like that, he was actually on his way to approaching his career averages in Toronto this season.
That is all to say he is a fucking terrible hockey player and should not be wearing a NHL jersey. Columbus shoved a 6 foot dildo in their asses by acquiring him, regardless of their financial situation.
Only way I see it happening is Leafs eat $1 million and take Stephen Weiss while getting a top prospect.
If not, just wait for Edmonton to make a dumb proposal.
Either way, I don't know why the fuck anybody would trade for Phaneuf.
you may want to backcheck you're stats his stats rose each year with the Devils. His lower numbers were while playing on the 4th and 3rd lines while his fighting stats were up. He worked his way up to the top lines and the 1st pp unit. Had a 30 goal season, played a big role in the Devils trip to the finals a place the leafs haven't seen in a long time. I understand your frustration tho. The leafs did overpay for a player that didn't fit their systemI really hope you understand Clarkson "thriving" was him getting 17 goals and 29 points a season (those are his numbers in NJ excluding his time in Toronto, btw). I'm not even sure that's fair. This season especially, he really had zero understanding of what was happening around him. Even when the Leafs were winning earlier on, he'd get the puck and would be dispossessed no more than 2 seconds later. He couldn't put shots on goal, he can't skate, he was on the power play half the season and didn't put up a single point. Maybe there were "intangibles" he was capable of providing before, but whatever they were he simply doesn't have the skills to do so today. That's perhaps a bit unfair. But as a guy who can, under the right circumstances, put up 15/30 for a team, he can provide some value. He should be getting only about $1.5M per though.
Only 3 years left. Leafs will suck for 3 years anyway. What's the harm? You've been justifiably critical of Holland for giving Weiss the money he got from the moment he signed. What is your honest reaction to the possibility of the Leafs trading for Weiss?
Not only the picks, but their current youngster crop (it's way, way more than just Domi) is outstanding, too. Maloney's doing some great work down there. The Coyotes are stockpiling picks. They're going to be a great team when they eventually move to Las Vegas or Seattle.
If he was such an integral and valuable piece for the Devils, and if his stats were so fantastic and ever-rising, $5.5 million would've been a bargain to re-sign him. So much for being the wests Subban lol
You're right. A player in an NHL system who has no business playing in the NHL.Sounds a lot like a player in the wrong system
