Ditto...

Pirates pitcher Cole to miss next start with 'shoulder fatigue' | TribLIVE

I love Hurdles quote talk about sugar coating the situation.

“I think fatigue is the proper word,” Hurdle said. “I think if you look at the season he had with us last year, the run he went on with us late, we really feel it's fatigue.”

Then later they won't comment on a MRI. Doesn't make you feel to warm and fuzzy.

I am now almost certain the Polanco needs a full season of AAA. Not really, but there is no reason to call him up now either.

calling up polanco now won't dramatically change the course of this year, but it will allow him to be up all next year and work out whatever adjustment he needs to hi the ground running like a puig or trout.
hopefully we will have other pieces in place next year to better compete for WC and in 3 years for WS.

I think we just keep Polanco in AAA until we're certain he won't be a Super Two. Then we call him up and let him lead off for the Bucs for the rest of the season. We want him to make his adjustments at the Major League level this year, and we want him to be as good as possible next year.

We are already past the point where we are certain that he won't be a Super Two. We are also at game #62, so if we called him up tomorrow it would be for 100 games. I see no point in bringing up a prospect that is expected to help the team for less than 100 games. Unless that prospect is going to get you to the playoffs. My personal opinion is that Polanco is not going to be that guy for us this year. If that is the case why waste a year of playing time when it doesn't serve the greater good?

I do hate to waste another year of McCutchen, but at the same time, I would more hate to waste a year of Polanco and McCutchen.

No. This is a bullshit argument. You don't screw a top prospect just because you're afraid he might be good. This goes beyond Polanco. You're going to be competing with other teams for future prospects and opposing scouts are going to be saying "you don't want to sign with pittsburgh - they dick around with prospects all the time" - and they'll be right.

Polanco should be in pittsburgh. He is better than snider and tabata. He deserves to be making rookie minimum salary - not the pittance that he's making in Indy.

And finally - if Polanco needs time to adjust then we're better off starting his adjustment time now. The last thing we want to do is to give Nutting an excuse to hold him back until next April, and then next June.

I mean what are you waiting for? What do you really expect? Does he need to hit .400 in AAA with 40 homeruns? Cause that's what you'd get if Polanco actually got any better than he's doing right now. What prospect has ever accumulated numbers like that?

We have to bring him up soon.

The Cole news sucks, if its anything but fatigue, its about time to cue the Martin/Liriano/Grilli/Melancon trade rumors.

Well, the date isn't hard and fast, and can't be known for two years. Historically it has been around this time, but with so many teams manipulating service time, it's not ridiculous it has moved back a week, two weeks.

As for holding him back because you aren't going to make the playoffs, well that is over the line where you start screwing wit the kid's development. If you think a guy can come up too soon, there is no reason to think he can't be held down too long with similar bad results.

Actually it is a B.S. arguements, but what is more B.S. is that Polanco is still in Indy.......or is it? The Pirates moved him to RF this year and gave him about 40 games there, now they have moved him to leadoff in the order, is it not conceivable that he could get 30-40 games there? So that is 70-80 games in AAA, or close to 100 games at the major league level. At that point he is almost just a September call-up.

I am not condoning this, just saying he may not be up as soon as we all seem to think.

Never mind any of this.

Happy Gregory Polanco Day everyone.

It is a shame it took one of their most productive hitters to go on the DL for this move, when in reality the news would have been better if Snider was DFA'ed.

I would like to keep Snider in the org honestly. I think he has some value, but yea it sucks that were essentially replacing Walker with Polanco. I assume Polanco is batting leadoff tonight, or do you bat him #2 to take Neil's spot?

He is supposed to be hitting second according to the rumors. I would prefer to see him hit leadoff, with Cutch batting second, but what do I know. I just like the fact that he will be protected for the first couple weeks.

Both Snider and Tabata have value the shame of it is neither alone has any trade value. At least they have a couple of weeks with Walker on the DL to figure out what to do.
