Intriguing deal IMO hmm

The Cards are all in for 2015, and my suspicion is this is going to pay dividends for ST Lou.

Love the deal, for both teams actually.

Not sure on this yet. Heyward is a free agent after 2015 and Miller is controlled for 4 more years. Plus Heyward had been good but not as good as advertised. I mean 11 HRs in 649 ABs is pretty bad. They do get Walden which he does well as long as he is not a closer but the guy has a delivery that drove me nuts when he was with the Angels. Miller threw over 170 innings each of the last 2 years and he is just 24 so we will see how his arm holds up. But at 24 I would take the decent starting pitcher over a decent OFer. Not saying you are wrong we will just have to see how it plays out.

It is amazing how many big league players are from Texas. Walden and Miller are from Texas. Mansfield and Brownwood.

@Buster_ESPN: Signing of Russell Martin likely takes TOR out of a major deal w/Melky Cabrera. Lose a pick signing Martin, gain 1 if Melky signs elsewhere.

Hmmmm

Melky would be the man to finally get EA out of the 2 hole. I'd be interested in bringing him to TX. Always have been. I'm not sure Rua can't put up those type numbers though.

Bannister has lots of homework to do. Will be interesting to see what he might do about the 2 hole.

If Martin is the lead off hitter than it has to be a RH/SH hitter in the 2 spot. Choo or Fielder will be in the 3 spot so you can't have 3 LH hitters in a row (you wouldn't think).

Would not think so. If not EA, who?

Right now Rua is the only one that fits, but I doubt they would put that kind of pressure on him.
Agree but time left for something to happen. Bannister has work to do as does jd

I wonder if we have any interest in Jon Niese? He's controllable through 2018 with team options in 2017 and 18.

I hope not, he would be super mediocre in the AL, and I would hope for more out of 7 & 9 million the next 2 seasons

Looks like we might we stuck with Elvis in the 2 hole. And i have no faith in Magadan making anybody a better hitter. But like DT said it's early a lot can happen between now and spring training. Plenty of time for JD to make this team better.

I disagree, but no way to know unless it happens. We have plenty of mediocre pitchers for the rotation next year. He would better than all of them not named Yu or Derek.

I am done blaming Magadan. Elvis is a grown ass man. If he wants to become a better hitter he will get his ass in the cage and do the work to make it happen. He has the talent. He just has to make it happen. Magadan is there for a resource. If stubborn players don't want to listen to him he is not going to a bit of good. The hitter has to do his part. So far I have not seen evidence of Elvis doing his part. He's not patient and he has horrible bat speed.

I don't mind Elvis in the two hole if he is not the manager's personal bunting machine and if base clogger Choo isn't in front of him. Just allow Elvis to hit the way he knows how and don't try to force him to take a certain "apporach" and he can hit anywhere. Stop having him bunt and stop wanting him to see a certain amount of pitches. If it is a first pitch strike then let him swing at the first pitch.
