Both extensions are believed to be five-year deals, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, who adds than an official announcement of the extensions could come as soon as tomorrow.
I hope we do, Duane. It's been quiet so far. This has been the biggest news coming out of Ranger camp. Actually the only news lately.Good. Now lets get to work putting a team together.

from Lone star ball:
J.A. Happ, Texas Rangers potential offseason acquisition - Lone Star Ball
Jon Niese, Texas Rangers potential offseason acquisition - Lone Star Ball
not really crazy about either but they are reasonably cheap
Kind of with you on this but Niese is just making 7 mill this year and 9 mill in 2016, 10 mill in 2017 and 11 mill in 2018 with a 550,000 buy out. His stats are middle of the rotation and that is in the NL. Not sure how he will play out in the AL. I read yesterday that the Mets were doing their usual trashing of a player before they trade him thing they like to do. So he is on the market.
So what do people think of jon niese? also any updates from terp?

Nothing of consequence from Terps. One post a week or so ago. Busy becoming a lawyer, I think. So what do people think of jon niese? also any updates from terp?
I don't want Niese. He and the Rangers have come up in rumors before and I never understood why we woud be interested. He is going to have an ERA of over 4.00 in the AL based on his career NL numbers. I think we have youngsters in the system who could be close to being that good for much cheaper. I know we will have youngsters who can do better than that way before he would leave us. We can't afford to overpay on anyone else or other parts of the club will suffer.
That could be interesting.

i don't want Niese either but sitting on our hands and not bringing someone in along with Colby and going with youth is going to put this team on a long road to being competitive again. we could be looking up at the rest of the division including Houston for the next 3 to 5 years.
