Gotta stay off ESPN...I just gotta stay off there...

Apparently Rua has more upside playing everyday at 1B than Fielder, because Fielder is fat. Nevermind that Fielder had a structural issue in his neck and that's why he was hurt....Nevermind that Rua is an unproven rookie...

:tsk: it's just not worth it.

If we aren't re-signing Colby off the bat then there's 3 spots to fill. Although, I guess the #5 spot will probably be one of our youngsters. I wouldn't be surprised if JD trades for a pitcher quickly, and gets one of the spots taken care of.

I'd have no problem with giving him a decent-to-good 2 year commitment.

He made $ 2 mil last year. Give him $ 2 mil guaranteed, with another $1.5 in incentives, plus a $1.5 mil 2016 buyout and let's call it a contract done.

Or is this low-balling him, according to him now?

I think with the way he finished the year that he thinks he can do better, and he's probably right. Let him walk and lets upgrade.

Problem is he was cheap, had the most wins on the team last season. Pitched more innings than expected and although he had a his usual issue w the HR ball, my issue is now that requires JD to bring on a third pitcher. Doubtful that happens and then we go w most of the rotation we had last year. I want to see proven solid pitching. We are gonna end up w garbage after Darvish and Holland

I am a big Colby Lewis fan but you really do not know what you are getting. I would not want to sign him for more than 1 year. And if he ends up with an ERA in the 5's again I would rather take my chances with one of our young pitchers.

IMO Lewis will get a 2 year contract. Or at least a one year with a player/club option for 2016.

I felt pretty good about how he finished the year. But he knows this is his last chance at anything decent so I don't really blame him testing the market.

If we lose him, that leaves us with Darvish and Holland at 1/2 and Tepesch at 4/5. And we still need to more pitchers.

Not a pretty picture.

Royals declined Butler's 2015 option. Discuss.

I would be very concerned with the decline in Butler's numbers across the board over the last two years. It makes it seem as if his 2012 season was an aberration. If he gets in a position like Cruz did where he has to sign a one year deal to prove himself for a relatively cheap amount I might get interested, but even then I wouldn't be too excited about it. I really am leery of guys with declining numbers in this post-steroid era.

He had 3 pretty good years in a row from 2011-13. Last year was a down one from those numbers though.

It makes me somewhat leery of him due to KC not picking up his option, b/c I think it was only around $7.5 mil. Not a huge investment for a 90 RBI kind of guy. By them not picking him up, I wonder if they see a the 2014 season as a sign of his future production.

Surprised to see you here today. Figure you'd be glued to the Sooner contest.

That's funny. I feel that way about them when they are talking about trades or possible free agent acquisitions for the Rangers. The Rangers almost never let real trade or free agent gossip leak out and yet these guys all think they have the Rangers next moves figured out. They are almost always wrong unless something is imminent. I am a lot more inclined to pay attention to what they say about the Rangers future outlook as a team than am about what they say about possible Ranger trades and free agents.

feel the same, you can't believe anything that is said until it actually happens

would you do a trade for Cole Hamel?

I think it would take a ton to get him in terms of prospects. It would also cost $90 million to pay him over the next 4 seasons. I don't think I would.

Give them Choo and Fielder....Amaro will not be able to say no! haha

HaHa. If JD could pull that off he would get my vote for executive of the year.
