Looking forward to the regular season getting underway. Not just for the team in Arlington, but the ones in Round Rock, Frisco, High Desert, and Hickory as well. Eventually, Spokane and Surprise also.

Saw this stat online today:

"Odor was one of just eight 20-year-old middle infielders in MLB history to play 100-plus games and post an adjusted OPS+ of at least 95. The last four to do so? Starlin Castro in 2010, Alex Rodriguez in 1996, Roberto Alomar in 1988, and Bill Mazeroski in 1957."

Analytics-inclined managers are changing baseball. | SportsonEarth.com : Brian Kenny Article

It might not seem like a huge story on its own. New Rangers manager Jeff Banister said his club will have no set lineup, and may change day to day. This, he says, depends on the opposing pitchers and specific things they see in the matchups.

Jeff Wilson of the Dallas-Fort Worth Star-Telegram points out that within the span of a few days, Shin-Soo Choo batted 2nd and 6th, and Elvis Andrus was back and forth between 2nd and 7th. Players moved all over. It's not that players have never switched around before, especially given righty and lefty starters on back-to-back days. Banister, though, is adhering to a different process. "You want to be able to have a stretched lineup," Banister said. "You want to be able to construct your innings such that they give up a better opportunity to score runs."

Maybe this doesn't strike you as extraordinary. But I believe it is. It's a tipping point in breaking down one of the last barriers to the sabermetric revolution: the gatekeeping manager.

Arkansas Legislative Session finished today with mixed results for the state's 250k veterans community. Year and a half of prep work had some results but now I can look forward to the game on the field rather than the one that goes on behind closed doors.

Wow! That is quite an accolade. Wonder where he would be if Profar had not injured his shoulder? Probably sent to MIL in the deal for Gallardo instead of Sardinas.

Wonder whose 25-man spot he takes?

He's a righty, and went 11-5 with a ERA of 4.33 last season at AAA.

This kind of comes outta the blue; at least a little to me. Maybe we'll send Martinez down. But that's strictly a guess.

Rangers EVP of communications John Blake has announced the move (on Twitter), adding that outfielder Antoan Richardson has been placed on the 60-day DL to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Verrett.

I guess this will suffice for the next 48 hours or so. But when we announce our 25 man roster, he's either on it or he's gone.

I bet he gets the LR job. Terrible message to send to Nick and the AAA rotation if they lose the #5 spot to a R5 RHP who failed to stick with NYM and BAL ... even if he went to Baylor. LR spot is normally low leverage role.

Wonder how many teams have had two R5 players on their roster at the same time before?
