Nice little series there. Odor with an 8 pitch walk, steals second, goes to third on the errant throw, and Andrus drives him in with a deep sac fly to center.

Fielder got screwed in that AB. That second strike was ball four, but then he reached out on a bad pitch for the out.

Out of all these 4 guys I feel Martinez has the mental makeup needed to handle the grind.

And I've lost some faith in Tepesch for sure. Is this just me?

No it is not just you. I have been behind Tepesch from the beginning and still am but right now Martinez has proven to me to be the better pitcher and should be in the rotation to start the season.

An umpire can make it really tough on a hitter if they feel like they have to go after a pitch they no is not a strike but the ump is calling it one. And Fielder does have a good eye as far as knowing the strike zone.

Alright. I've seen enough of Tepesch. As Justin said, a ground ball pitcher who doesn't get ground balls.

Wash chose those games to rest his regulars a lot too. He usually rested some combination of Hamilton, Napoli, Cruz which hurt our lineup. Josh was worthless in day games anyways, though that may have had a lot to do with him taking mental vacations on getaway days too.

"taking mental vacations" ... I seem to remember some of his vacations could last for weeks and weeks.

Agree on it not going well. The ONLY thing keeping him around is his speed but what good is it if you make bad reads defensively, can't hit so you are not on base much to use the speed and then your base stealing abilities just don't seem to equate with the speed he has.

Understand the logic of keeping him around for month or so to see how he works out ... but the downside of that is he has to be in the lineup to do that. A guy going into his sixth year as a CFer ought to have more than one tool by this point that is ML-caliber. Chasing fly balls ... using Gentry as the standard ... does not appear to be his forte. If it isn't ... then even Choo is a better option in CF b/c he's already on the roster and will not displace someone who can play CF who didn't need to win the Rule 5 sweepstakes to get a roster spot.

I understand the logic ... but in his case not sure how he compels TEX to keep him for the entire season in which case ... he's a millstone.

You mean like down the stretch of a dead heat race for the division, even to the very last game? Yeah, don't remind me.

That was a fat pitch to Trout. Fortunate on that one.

As bad as Choo may be in CF that may be a good idea as far as a backup and let someone more deserving fill in at the COF spots.

No idea how things would have shook out, but that's certainly one trade hindsight makes me want a do-over on.

If Choice had been what everyone hoped he might be it would have been nice ... but then you'd have thought that OAK would have known that too. TEX experiment to swap had only upside potential bc Gentry was never going to be an everyday OFer ... and Choice might have been.
