Doing it against pretty quality competition too, Baseball Reference has a nice little stat that rates the quality of the opponents, not sure how accurate, but its still interesting

So far Rua has his line up to .300/.349/.550/.899/1HR/8 RBI/2BB/9K/40AB

Still would like to see him take a couple more walks, but other than maybe adding a couple more bombs what else can the guy show? I know, small sample size, but he appears to be picking up right where he left off after a mildly slow start to spring training.

I agree, but he's already been declared not an option by sending him to minor league camp.
I think they want to give DeShields a chance in the regular season. If he doesn't look good after a few weeks I think they send him back to Houston or work out a deal with the Astros and send him down.

Well, I suppose technically that prediction worked out. I can't remember if it was 2013 or '14, but recently they were markedly better in night games than day games.
For a couple of years they were very bad in daytime getaway games under Washington. They just seemed to take those games off.

Wash chose those games to rest his regulars a lot too. He usually rested some combination of Hamilton, Napoli, Cruz which hurt our lineup. Josh was worthless in day games anyways, though that may have had a lot to do with him taking mental vacations on getaway days too.

You read my mind on this.

But for me, I'm so under-whelmed with his play I can't imagine this experiment going well just b/c the clock hits regular season.

Agree on it not going well. The ONLY thing keeping him around is his speed but what good is it if you make bad reads defensively, can't hit so you are not on base much to use the speed and then your base stealing abilities just don't seem to equate with the speed he has.

I'll admit to a degree of "lack-of-knowledge" re: this guy. But if last night was any indication, it was about as bad a night as I ever hope to witness from someone trying to make a positive impression.

Mentally, that dive in center, to go along with his "attempted" steal with Beltre at bat, showed a total lack of awareness and/or baseball IQ.

I'm really hoping he is just trying too hard, but the dumb thing about it is he doesn't have to. He is in a unique position in that if he can just make good decisions, steal some bases, and occasionally get a hit/take a walk he is a lock for the 25 man roster. However, I still keep thinking there is a reason the FREAKING ASTROS couldn't find a reason to hold onto him.

Chi Chi to minor league camp. That sucks.

He was not going to make the team anyways.... at least not now. Later this year he might be up though.
Kela on the other hand..............

It's the right move. I am really impressed after seeing him pitch, but AAA is where he needs to start, and maybe get a call up a la Perez in 2013.

That is so true. The guy has been so underwhelming you just hate to see him taking up space just because he is fast.

No idea how things would have shook out, but that's certainly one trade hindsight makes me want a do-over on.

It looked very nice at the time. Now, not so much.

I think we should have tried to get him back from Oakland during their offseason fire sale

Agree 100% on Gonzalez.

And frankly, I'd like to see Kela - all 21 years of him - be in AAA to start the season too. He may have forced himself onto the 25 man roster. But the team and it's lack of quality arms in the BP makes this even more possible.

3 months ago, I felt really good about the pen. Not at all now; with or without Kela.
