What makes you think that?

This.

I don't know what kind of shape the owners are in financially. I do know that a year ago the national TV revenue increased significantly for all teams and this coming season the local TV revenue is increasing significantly and yet the team plans on keeping about the same budget as they had in 2013. That seems to indicate that things aren't that great financially with the team.

The decision to keep Magadan may not have anything to do with finances, but this team does appear to be having some difficulties financially. I am not saying that they would keep a coach that they think is awful, but it could tip the scales when the difference in what they have and what they could get is not overwhelming in their eyes. In other words on a scale of 1 to 10 if they think they have a 4 and think they could find a 7 they may not be willing to spend the extra money. Yet, if they felt they had a 2 and could get an 8 they might not blink an eye at eating his salary.

I do know that most on here thought Magadan wasn't worth much at all and wanted him replaced so I am not alone in thinking he should have been replaced. There is no reason to change my mind simply because the Rangers are keeping him. The Rangers let him talk to other teams even after Banister was hired so it appeared they didn't care if he left. Now that he isn't leaving on his own they have changed course with him. That does bring the question I asked to my mind. There is no way to know, but it does make me wonder.

This from the O's:

if someone wants to take a chance on Matt Wieters coming back from Tommy John surgery, the O's will listen to them as well.

Would you be at all interested in having him as Chirinos' backup?

And this from the Reds:

The Cincinnati Reds are going to be an interesting team to watch this offseason because 80 percent of their starting rotation will be free agents after the 2015 season. Regardless of whether they try to extend them or trade them, management must be active. This group includes Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Mike Leake and Alfredo Simon.

Joe Maddon is leaving the Rays.

From Buster Olney:

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon has exercised an opt-out clause in his contract and is leaving the team immediately.

"We tried diligently and aggressively to sign Joe to a third contract extension prior to his decision," Rays owner Stuart Sternberg said in a statement. "As of yesterday afternoon, Joe enabled himself to explore opportunities throughout Major League Baseball. He will not be managing the Rays in 2015."

Maddon to the Dodgers will happen pretty soon I imagine. It was inevitable.

I would've loved for Maddon to be our manager. I do think Banister will end up being a good hire though. He better bring Maddux back.

If Maddux doesn't come back there is no limit to the amount of shit I will break.

WOW! What the heck spurred this on, I wonder. He will be the most highest salaried manager in baseball.

Something tells me Banister would have been the hire even if Maddon had been available.

I am thinking that Maddux would have been hired back if he was going to be brought back by now. It is telling that Magadan has been brought back before word on Maddux. Then of course Maddux has to have a new contract.

I thought that the organization definitely wanted Maddux back but it was Maddux that sort of had 2nd thoughts after the Bannister hire. I think a few weeks ago he was even in Arizona for some AFL work with the pitchers despite not having a contract for next season. Not sure what's happened.

Maybe he and Banister just haven't had a formal meeting. He seemed very enthused about staying on as the pitching coach.
