TR Sullivan says Rosario doesn't have the defensive skills that the Rangers desire. Does he think that Gattis would've been a better catcher? They both are back up catchers and DH's, that add some RH pop.

I wouldn't mind Rosario but I don't know what Colorado would want in return and his health was questionable at times last year. I hear you on he's a backup though

Chirinos thinks he can catch 150 games though so you won't need much if he even can catch 130 games

I highly doubt Robbie catches 150 games. I'm not sure if he catches 130. He really started to tail off last year. He was having trouble throwing anyone out at the end of the year if I remember correctly.

Yeah I was mostly kidding, I think if he caught somewhere in the ballpark of 110-115 that would be a lot. He says he's training for it though, so maybe he catches 120. Last year was his first full year to get almost all his playing time behind the dish.

Rangers do however need to sign someone to back him up, unless they plan on Gimenez or Telis filling that role.

As a backup I would take any of Rosario, Stassi, or Conger, though Conger probably has the most upside as a starting catcher

Roasrio is the best hitter but is not a starting catcher, mostly a DH type that can catch to give the regular a day off a couple times a week

I'd be interested in Wellington Castillo as well if the Cubs were wanting to move him

Cubs have Montero and David Ross, wonder what it would take to get Castillo? Thought about him as well though I never have looked into him much until now

Anyone having issues with the site? Every time I post I get kicked back to some random place in the thread I post on and then I have to go back to the current page to see where I was just posting. Weird

A situation where Castillo & Chironos split the ABs at catcher would be ok with me

Even if the Rangers wanted to spend the type of money it would cost to get Scherzer and were willing to risk a long term big money deal on a pitcher they probably wouldn't be able to land him. They have never landed that kind of a pitcher in the history of the franchise in an open market free agency setting.

and that means they never will

One thing I feel pretty sure about; we need to get a catcher who can call a decent game, and play decent defense.

If we desire to keep Yu and frankly other hitters too, then some emphasis has to be on catching and not hitting IMO.
