The great Eric Nadel. We're lucky to have him.

"Asked McKinnis if Price would consider extensions with other teams. Said yes. Asked which clubs. He declined to answer."

That's what ken rosenthal just tweeted. I thought he wasn't signing extensions??????

Amen to that. Congrats to Eric Nadel for winning Ford C Frick award for broadcasting.

Gave that its own thread before I saw this. He deserves his own thread, hands down my favorite person to listen to.

My youngest son asked this morning if the Rangers had done anything during the Winter meetings. I told him that Choo wants to come here but we don't want him for what he is asking, offered Colon 1 year but he wants 2 and offered Cruz 2 years and he wants 3. He wanted to know why we act like we do not have any money. Can understand that question to a point.

Expect choo to sign sometime today. If he doesn't, then I couldnt tell you whats holding it up. Maybe another offer? Not sure. I wish my friend was actually in orlando and not just receiving updates from it via text. I bet things would be a lot more clear

But don't expect a kemp trade til choo signs. Its only smart for the dodgers. People might not be all in on kemp right now because they think they still gotta chance with choo. So when he signs you'll see who is really interested

Edit: Just saw that maybe there is a mystery team.. his old team lol. Not really much of a mystery but maybe that'll hold him up a little. Maybe the reason he hasn't signed yet isnt cuz he wants to come here, maybe he wants to go back to cincy

The fact that he is over 30 and isn't worth 7 years at any price....That's what is holding it up. He needsto take 5/85 and like it.

Jeff Wilson@JeffWilson_FWST [ame=""]4m[/ame] How slow was business for #Rangers on Tuesday? GM Jon Daniels gave almost all of his staff the night off.

He'll get 100+. Definitely won't get the 150 range like I've seen a few times but he'll get 100+. At point it's up to JD and ownership to want to give that or not.

I don't understand that question at all. Top 10 in payroll the last couple of years.

5/85 with a 6th year option for 100.

I'd rather the rangers not give some of these asinine deals were seeing.

I think it will take 4 or 5 years. I'm ok with 4 and a 5th year as option but beyond that I just don't see it being worth it.

I thought we offered 2 and the sticking point was he wanted 3. Which I am okay with.

I don't understand that question at all. Top 10 in payroll the last couple of years.

The Rangers had the 11th highest payroll in baseball at the start of the 2013 season and moved into the top 10 with the two trades at the deadline. Not bad. But they've been 3rd and 5th in attendance over the last two seasons and the DFW Metroplex is the 4th largest market in the league. So while payroll isn't the end-all measure of success and it's certainly not smart to flush away money on awful contracts, it does seem that the payroll doesn't quite measure up to where it could conceivably rank. Not saying I think our payroll has to be top-5 at all, but I do understand where he's coming from with that question.

Not only that, what is our payroll at right now? Not trying to be argumentative but was really curious. I know we added Prince but lost Kinsler ($13 mill), Cruz ($10.25 mill), Berkman ($10 mill), Nathan ($8 mill), AJ ($7.5 mill), and Murphy ($5.775 mill). That is around $54 mill. Plus we have owners with deep pockets.

We haven't had the need to have a super high payroll the last few years because we had a lot of team friendly contracts and control on a lot of key players. Payroll will go up. Just because it's not being used in one off season doesn't mean it won't or can't be in the top 5. We have needs and holes to fill but it's better to be safe than sorry if you're going to break the bank on guys that are good but aren't special type players.

Our payroll is at 101,925,000 right now which doesn't include the amount we'll have to pay in arbitration. So if Simpson and Davis are keen on a 125 million budget then we really couldn't afford to give Choo 20 million a year, sign the arbitration elligible players, and then do some mid level shopping. I really do wish Simpson and David would open up their pockets a bit more, but as of now JD has to figure out a way to put the best team out there without going over the budget assigned to him.
