I know this is a bad thing to hope for, but there is a part of me that hopes for one real down year to weed out the ESPN type fans. Then again the Cowboys have had a shit ton of those and those people are still around to talk the most garbage about them...I am conflicted.

Thanks for checking in Terps. Thought any Kemp deal will take its time. If Choo is announcing today, it's going to be Seattle, I presume. Any movement on Cruz?

If Choo would go to seattle that would be great news for us in my opinion. Not only would they have 0 money to spend, but cruz asking price would have to drop because his biggest suitor would be out on him. I think We'd end up getting nelly if choo goes to seattle.

Here's some slightly better news. JD is gonna be in on tanaka if he is posted. He thinks that he can use success from darvish as a negotiating ploy. He doesnt think he will cost as much as darvish either. The hope is that he lands tanaka and is able to trade one of his left handed starters for a lineup impacting package somewhere down the road

Unless that LHP is Harrison, that's terrible news

JD has told Scott Boras that they are simply too far apart at this point. Unless they lower their price significantly then we're out of the choo race.

JD met with ned coletti again today. That's honestly all I have. I guess the day is still young, but I was certain there would be more activity up to this point

This brings us back to Cruz. And I was and am a proponent of resigning him. He drives in runs, can play LF/ DH, and is a good clubhouse guy too.

This would probably mean we have to be committed to Martin to lead-off and I know some of us are a little leery of this.

Bandwagoners are great things. It means the team is successful.

I wonder if Seattle is going to meet his demands or if our offer could do it. I don't think it will happen buit that's our only hope. That and maybe he just doesn't want to go to Seattle.

I think that if seattle signs choo, then we'll be the only major suitor in on him which will lead to his price dropping for us. So choo signing could be one of the best things that happens to us this offseason

Look at the lakers bandwagon when they're good. Usually 20 movie stars at every game. When they suck? You only see jack Nicholson.

Being told that seattle getting choo is basically imminent now. He is holding out because we have yet to officially offer him and he wants us to give him something official before acceptance. We've just given him our range. But hopefully in this stalling time another team doesnt swoop in, let the m's overpay for him and cano.

The M's were in on Kemp too, so this could be a blessing.

Boras is a genius. He comes out before free agency and rips teams like Seattle for having money to spend but never spending it, and what happens? They'll end up signing Choo for mega money. He even gets his old client 240 million.

I'm sorta wondering to myself, is trumbo really worth skaggs +? If it were me, I'd keep skaggs over trumbo anyday

You've got to remember three things though about hoping for rival teams to overpay for the top players:

1). Baseball has no salary cap, so as long as owners are willing to spend like money is no object, overpaying doesn't hurt some teams as much as others.

2). What seems ridiculous to pay a player now might be a little more normal in year 3 or 4 of the deal when all salaries have inflated.

3). The rival team, while overpaying, is still acquiring top talent. So while the Cano/Choo combo might put a financial hurt on the M's in the future, they do no doubt make the M's a tougher divisional opponent for the Rangers in 2014 and 2015.

If they want a power bat in LF with no regards to defense, then they should keep Skaggs and sign Cruz.
