That's a big contract. Are the Yankees moving on from Cano?

Choo is Detroits top target. That doesn't mean he's going there.

Apparently the Rangers have been a bit reluctant to give him too big a deal so we'll see which team wants him more.

That's a good question, maybe the Mariners are actually willing to give Cano 200+ million for a long time so perhaps the Yankees decided to upgrade elsewhere.

Teams should be reluctant. The Yankees just made a huge mistake. I would give Choo 5/75-80. That's it. We have to do something. This line-up is below average right now.

Some other team will pay him, the Rangers are not likely to go that high. If Ellsbury gets 150 million for 7, Boras will be looking for a huge chunk for Choo as well. Likely over 100 million plus, which prices us out of a deal.

I'm still trying to get a grip on the fact that my favorite Ranger (along with Beltre) is now a member of the stinkin A's...sigh...

The Fister deal continues to bother me. Hell, we could have expanded the Fielder deal by adding Fister - and we could have provided better quality prospects/reliever than the Nats gave up! Fister would have been a great addition to our staff, a ground ball pitcher to boot....

I hadn't really thought about this. But it's a good point at least.

For me, I'm not concerned about the lack of activity on the FA front. There's more than one way to skin a cat, and JD has another trade, maybe two in mind I betcha.

Would they be able to pay him 200 million and stay under luxury tax with CC's contract and the one they just gave McCann plus what are they gonna do for pitching if Kuroda leaves to finish his career Asia. Does that mean Gardener is in LF , Choo is CF and Ichiro is RF for the Yanks?

I love his ability to get on base, but man his numbers against lefties ain't good at all a .333 OBP against them the last 3 years. I wouldn't want to pay 100+ million for a guy who I might have to platoon.

The Yankees better hope he keeps his speed for a majority of that deal because that's where a lot of his value comes from, oh and they should probably make sure he doesn't run into anybody.

If those numbers are correct, then we know why he was never on our shopping list to begin with. That's ludicrous.

Over paying, at least a little, on a shorter term deal with Beltran wouldn't hurt my feelings much.

Going to Safeco would be the dumbest thing Cano could do. There's zero protection in that lineup and Safeco is where hitters go to die.

Choo is better in a corner outfield position, the Reds had him play out of place. I assume Gardner would play Center and then they'd put Choo at left. Also a big unknown is the A-Rod situation, if his suspension is upheld then the Yankees might be able to get out of his contract.

I'm all for over paying a bit for Beltran on a two year deal with a third year option.

Guys they signed Ellsbury, not Choo. Ellsbury will play C with gardner in LF

I wonder if Tanaka is going to get posted since the MLB and NPB still haven't come up with a posting agreement yet, if he doesn't get posted I wonder if some of the current starters on the market get overpaid.

I still think Cano is in JD's head. I think he could be working on a trade for an OFer, but if that doesn't happen he will have to overpay for FA's. I'd rather overpay for the best FA
