Runs scored in Tep's starts:

6, 3 (L), 5, 2, 2 (L), 2 (L), 12, 1 (L), 3, 1, 1 (L), 2 (L), 8, 2, 4, 10, & 4

Right at 4 a game, 10 total runs scored in his 6 losses

Yes he had some bad games, but he was a rookie making the jump from AA, I'd be inclined to cut him some slack, his biggest problem was finding a way to avoid the big inning
I get a good feeling about the 10 runs in 6 games. This new offense may change things for the better.

Well DT, if the new offense doesn't change things for the better, we're in for a world of hurt.

And so is JD.

Run Support ... going back to check how TEX SPs did getting Run Support in 2013.

League average was 4.4 Runs/Game ... TEX averaged 4.5. Here's what Baseball Reference.com reports along with their ERA.

Perez 5.3 (3.62ERA)
Grimm 5.2 (6.37ERA)
Garza 5.1 (4.38ERA)
Holland 4.8 (3.42ERA)
...
Darvish 4.3 (2.83ERA)
Ogando 3.9 (3.11ERA)
Tepesch 3.9 (4.87ERA as SP)

So for Scotty who seems in love with W-L records for pitchers ... what would Tepesch's W-L record be if he had gotten Perez' Run Support or at least TEX 4.5 RS average?

Just rereading ... I remember some of those painful games where Tepesch worked worked worked ... and got crappy run support. If you throw out three games where he got blow out support ... (12+8+10=30 runs) ... 68-30 = 38 runs/17-3games = 2.71 RS.

So Tepesch in the contested games got freakin 2.71 RS. That sucks!

We can do better, nobody ever debated that

The point is... is it worth the cost to improve on what Tepesch, or any of the other internal options provide?

Don't be mad when people shoot holes in your statements

Ha, yeah, he's a solid OF bat to bring to ST though, worth a look at least

Really can never have too many players on the 40 man that have ability. Would take that over what Texas was stuck with last year. I cannot believe Chris McGuinness ever had to play for the the Ranger...it was awful.

Excellent AA and AAA numbers until last year ... and then dropped off big. Maybe there was something in the LAD organization not working for him? New place, new team ... and it isn't like TEX is stuffed with COF talent so definitely worth a shot. Although he has to know he is 'on the bubble' on the 40man.

lack of consistent playing time may have been the culprit

No ... Am totally discounting his tiny number of ABs at LAD. He had 105 games for Albuquerque in 2013 up from 94 in 2012. Across his 2013 line everything looks like his line in 2012 ... 12% more ABs but his SOs were up 30%. SLG dropped along with OBP in 2013 but 2011 at AA and 2012 at AAA were excellent.

Something happened to him in his second season at AAA... 2013 is the anomaly.

Should still have some options. Was traded to from LAD to BOS. TEX snagged him when BOS had to make room for Napoli. It wasn't as if BOS or LAD gave up on him. He was just a roster casualty. Interesting.
