Didn't Boras reportedly turn down 6-years, $140MM from the pinstrips?

7 year, $140M..

My guess is that they thought they could get more than Ellsbury did, but if they couldn't, they didn't wanna go back to the Yankees, so they ended up taking the slightly smaller deal elsewhere.

No state income tax in Texas. Made a huge difference.

Just looked on MLBTR and saw 7 years $130 mill. Great Christmas present. Expected to see nothing when I took time to look. What a great surprise.

With the way state income taxes work out the Rangers deal actually ends up being more...

Taxes did not and does not play a role here. He wanted to come to the better team and organization rather than going to an organization in decline and a bunch old farts.

Choo had a 112 walks last season. I heard the we haven't had a player walk 100 times since Rafy in 2002.

I'm sure no state tax is one good reason he wanted to come here.

Money played a very big roll. Always has and always will IMO.

I'm in very high hopes that Choo's plate discipline will have a trickle effect throughout the entire team.

I'm sure no state tax is one good reason he wanted to come here.

It's never swayed anybody to come here or any other state with no income tax before. It's almost always and certainly the biggest contract. Would Choo be an exception? I guess you can never 100% rule it out but if you're going to sign somewhere and get paid a butt load of money either way where would you sign right now? Texas or New York? It's a no brainer there. While I'd love to think state income taxes played a roll I just think he wanted to come here because he's getting a butt load of money and the Rangers are just the better team and organization right now and for the foreseeable future.

It sure does but it always usually boils down to the biggest contract. As I stated above I don't think the state income taxes played much of a role here.

Get a clue and please change your avatar. You do that man a great disservice spewing that crap.

Not true in either case. Stay in Mich, or is that CA, please.
