I can live with the Beede pick. Golden Spikes finalist 14-0 this year. Been clocked up to 97 MPH. Ranked 12 by MLB. Good pick. RHP

my cousin is a total baseball nerd and a HUGE Vandy fan... I am asking him for some kind of scouting report...

As of now, I would slot him as our number 2 prospect, right behind Crick.

Crick has a little bit higher ceiling, Beede has a higher floor. Still, very similar pitchers. Both could arrive in San Francisco around the same time, ETA 2016/17.

Harold Reynolds said Beede looks like a Giant. He liked the pick and said put the Orange and black on him right now. I rate the pick a B + right now.

I agree. Not being able to trade draft picks is dumb as hell.

What's the league's reasoning for not allowing them to be traded?

From my cousin...

"He's awesome. Great makeup. Leader. 2 major league ready pitches and when he gets his change up consistently, it'll be a plus pitch as well"

Said he saw him pitch this past Friday and he was hitting 96 in the 7th inning.

I can't find the number of picks for the Giants this year. When do they pick next in the 2nd round? How many left?

What's the league's reasoning for not allowing them to be traded?

I have wondered this myself, and I have heard two reasons in response (in discussions, not necessarily MLBs stance)...

1) too many teams punt the draft, so the value would be all over the board.
2) stupid GMs could cripple their orgs.

I think these are both outdated arguments. Most teams are putting a lot if attention into scouting and the draft now. Just look at how the QO affects FA's value. Further, I think that MLB is moving towards allowing trades. They introduced the competitive balance picks, and they allow these to be traded. I suspect that is a pilot program.

Congrats, msg...

I don't follow the draft AT ALL so I'll take your word for it. The buzz on him seems positive, on the Sox board they are saying they liked him as the #1 pick and got lucky to get him there. And this from a guy who always rags on the team, an anti-homer.

I don't care that much, I've told you guys I'm way more of a Giants fan and have been for years. I just have a vestigial interest, so I can yak about them with my dad.

This may sound weird, but Brady Aiken is going to be a big league pitcher, probably a good one too. He's got a great name, has a good face (looks way mature for being only 17), and is from San Diego. The kid will make it.

Call me crazy, but the Astros are making some moves. They could be one of the best teams in baseball soon.

They'd better get good, haven't they had the #1 pick like 4 years running? They do look like they are finally taking a step forward this year, could win 72-73 games...

What do you guys think of Braxton Davidson ranked 36 by MLB as a hitter. A first baseman but they say could play the OF at a corner position. This guy has one of he sweetest swings in the draft. One of my top guys as a hitter. He hit a HR over 500 feet in The Tournament of Stars. I would pick this guy in a heartbeat next for the Giants. He will be a star hitter in MLB. So much talent at 18 yrs old.
