Dude is 6'8" and has an easy delivery. Looks like a plus curve.

4 pitchers taken, 3 OF, 2 IF...a pattern is emerging.

7 college, 2 HS.

Best, you have any info?

I actually really like the pick, despite the Oregon State connection ;)

You're right with the Mac Williamson connection, similar players. I think DD has a chance to be a better player though, or at least a better shot at the majors. This guy has a cannon, I was at an Oregon-Oregon State game and he just rocketed a throw from the warning track all the way to home plate, barley missed the runner, but it was extremely impressive nonetheless. And the power is there, but he's probably not going to be a big masher. Remember Kevin Millar? That could be his ceiling, which would be incredible value for his slot.

I should add, Kevin Millar, but able to stick in the OF, with solid corner defense.

Round 5 -- Samuel Coonrod, RHP, Junior Univ Ill Carbondale.

I like this pick, only because of our pitching guru's. They have their work cut out with this kid, but he has a live arm and at least 2 solid pitches, 3rd is inconsistent. I trust our guys to figure him out though.

11th round is kinda a magic round. It is outside the bonus structure, so it has the potential to act somewhat like a supplemental draft, since teams can offer higher bonuses.

It doesn't look like the Giants went that route with this pick, though. College seniors rarely need goofy signing bonuses.

Weeeeeelllll, it's not really outside the bonus structure : there's a ceiling of $100K. The rules are that you have a bonus pool for the first 10 rounds, and if you overspend the pool you get fined. All rounds after the 10th don't count UNLESS you give a guy more than $100K - then the amount in excess of $100K counts against the bonus pool. Since the slotted amount for the last few round 10 picks is $137,600, there's not much wiggle room in round 11. IF a team has shaved a few 100K here and there, then yes, it would have bigger impact in a supposed 100K max than (say) in round 3 (500-700K); but it wouldn't have much more impact than in rounds 9 or 10 (all bonuses < $155K).

First 20 rounds are in:

10 pitchers, 4 IF, 6 OF
15 college, 5 HS.

Clearly, the idea is to draft half pitchers and then to lean toward OF, which is the organizational need.

Here's a late pick I love, Mitch Hart out of the Sacramento area. Giants picked him up in the 35th round. He's committed to USC, not sure about his sign-ability. But if the Giants do end up signing him, he could become a real solid pick.

6'-4", 190 lbs. He throws low 90s, but once he fills into his body, he should see some extra velocity. Kid has a smooth delivery, and good arm action. He's comfortable with his stuff too, throws strikes. Has the fastball, curveball, changeup and all 3 are already solid offerings.

If this kid doesn't sign, he could shoot up the draft board in 3 years. I hope he does sign though, he would be a nice find this late.

Giants also just drafted Benito Santiago Jr., yes that Benito Santiago. Giants drafted his son, 38th round.

After 40 rounds:

25 pitchers, 12 infielders, 7 OF
25 college, 15 HS.

These last ten picks were 9 HS, and 4 catchers.

Colon is not fooling anyone so far. Buster spanked that and got nothing.
