From a legal standpoint, I don't see how suspensions could carry over to either league...seems like they'd just get a headache of issues from that.

The legal aspect is a good point.

There could be a clause in the agreement that allows the players to participate in Sochi that addresses some of those questions though.

3 games, about what I was expecting. Completely unnecessary to make that hit. Glad they didn't go in-person. He'd have gotten 5+, and I would not have bat an eye.

Shame no one is going to nut punch the ref for missing it, though. Those two really shit the bed.

This. Two refs saw this hit and decided not to call a penalty yet it's deemed to be worthy of a three game suspension. Sure wish the league had more transparency regarding disciplinary decisions on officials.

/Yeah, keep dreaming dash.

Dubinsky took a knee that was five feet in front of a ref and nothing. Ryan Johansen pushed for position on a faceoff and got called for a high stick. Nothing got even close to the guy's face.

There were just as many calls made that sucked as there were ones that got missed. I think the only one they got right was when Smith played the puck in the trapezoid.

Wow, Tyler Myers looking at a Shanaban hearing by phone. Obviously I want the guy to stick to clean hits (which this clearly was not), but it is nice to see him finally start putting his size to use.

Yep! Not only did that negate a goal, but he only got 2 minutes! Refs really fucked us over that game man

Nolan wasn't happy with Myers taking that penalty. It put the Sabres down 5 on 3 PP and the Devils scored.

They scored before during that delayed penalty too, and it should have been a major. And that wasn't offsides. What I'm saying is, the zebras REALLY fucked us over. Definitely cost us atleast 1 point.

First off, on its own merits I have no issue with a three game suspension for Myers.

However, I have a hard time relating it to Lupul getting nothing more than a fine for dislocating Eaves' jaw.

And even though his history was cited, I don't think Myers is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the CBA since his last suspension was in March 2012. Lupul on the other hand is a repeat offender and gets $10K only.

The Wheel keeps spinning.

That Derek MacKenzie suspension was worth the 3 games but Kreider should be suspended, probably for just a game though

Not arguing MacKenzie, I actually thought he'd get five.

Here's Kreider at game speed. Took several steps to get there...

MacKenzie followed through on the check all the way to the boards where as Kreider did not appear to.

when I saw your gif I thought I can understand the debate. when I see that it certainly is more of a lock of a suspension for me. sure he stopped short of hammering him through but he still elbowed him into the boards or at least to throw him off balance to go into the boards. I cant understand their reasoning for no suspension

Yes he "let up". And he had four strides looking at numbers to decide not to make the hit.

"Your honor, I moved the gun from his head to his leg before pulling the trigger. So I'm a good guy, right?"

If you shoot somebody below the waist, you probably won't be charged with attempted murder if they survive. If you shoot them above the waist, anything is possible. (By the way, what I just said is not 100% true as a mean DA can still pin the attempted murder charge on you if they feel they have the evidence for a conviction).

It appears the follow through is the key here.
