Grabner is a first offender. I call bullshit. It's not Grabner's fault Gerbe is a smurf.

Size difference does come into play with a lot of these hit's. If a guy that's 6'5" hits a guy that's 5'8" the shorter players head is going to come into play most of the time. It's a tough call for sure.

I had no idea Grabner could hurt a fly. He's usually to busy flying by opponents.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is expected to deliver his written opinion on Sabres winger Patrick Kaleta's appeal of his 10-game suspension either Wednesday or Thursday.

Once that decision is rendered -- and as long as the suspension remains six or more games -- Kaleta and the NHL players’ association have seven days to decide whether to take the appeal to independent arbitrator James Oldham.

If the decision is to ask for the independent arbitrator, then that appeal case must be heard in an expedited manner, according to the collective bargaining agreement.

Given that Kaleta has already sat out five games, it’s possible that his second appeal hearing wouldn’t be heard until his suspension is nearly finished. But the chance to reduce his financial penalty through the independent arbitrator is just as important, given Kaleta's lost wages to the tune of $152,439.

Rumblings: Kaleta's appeal, Eller's next deal - Cross Checks Blog - ESPN

Five games for Garbutt too. Seems to be the number du jour. Probably want to stay below the appeal threshold.

Take your guess on how many games Scott gets?

I can't see this on my work computer, but I guess this is the hit in question:

That looks like a textbook Rule 48 violation to me - I think the Sheriff is going to come down hard on Scott. Minimum 10 games.

Greg Wyshynski ‏@wyshynski 7m Remember everyone: It's only players like John Scott that lay out opponents with head shots. Not Duncan Keith or Dustin Brown or Shane Doan

Scott is a total goon. I can handle goon play but this is just a flat out cheap shot.

To be fair, Scott doesn't have a history, and has never been suspended before.

FWIW, Noodles on TSN Hockey Tonite thinks Scott will get 5 games (basically saying the same punishment as Garbutt who like Scott had not been suspended before).

some isles fans thought a suspension was coming

Arthur Staple ‏@StapeNewsday 16m No hearing for F. Nielsen for his "elbow" to Ryan Kesler's "head" from Tuesday. Some of you were very concerned last night

I'll be the first to admit that Scott is nothing more than a liability on this team, but people kept bitching how the Sabres weren't tough enough, and this is how this type of shit ends up.

Sabres don't have much going on when it comes to their roster, and it becomes nescesarry to put Scott on the ice longer than is needed or wanted.

Just look at his average ice time from last Season to this Season so far. I bet it's a big difference?

I also think this is more than Rolston can handle right now.

As I posted in the GDT:

Bad hit by Scott.

Not to make this about the victim but how does Eriksson let Scott, who moves about as fast as the Greenland ice sheet, get close to him. Hard to believe.

Dummy play by Scott nonetheless. He will get, wait for it, 5 games for that.

No surprise:

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
BUF's John Scott has an in-person hearing with NHL for hit to the head on BOS's Loui Eriksson though date and time has yet to be set.

That sound you just heard was a collective cheer from the Sabres fan base.

The biggest problem I have with this is that Scott's suspension will have no negative impact on his team while any time missed by Eriksson hurts the Bruins.
