2013-2014 Oscars / 86th Academy Awards

Of the four I've seen:

1. Captain Phillips- Not an all-time great, but a more humanist version of Argo. If the dialogue was a little better, this could have been an all-time great.
2. American Hustle- It was fun, but the message was incoherent at times and perverse at others.
3. Gravity- At some point, when the allure of the visual magic wore off, you realized you were watching an average movie. A lot like Avatar in that regard.
4. Wolf of Wall Street- The worst Scorsese movie I've ever seen. The whole movie was scene after scene proving the same point, that the main character was a douchebag. It didn't have a purpose at all. It was like watching the Real Housewives of Wall Street.

I'm seeing 12 Years A Slave tonight. It seems almost everyone thinks it is going to win.

Best Film Score : Arcade Fire / Owen Pallett (Her)

I heard that "Gravity" is up for best picture and Sandra Bullock is up for Best Actress.


I saw this movie and while it was pretty good, I can say without hesitation that neither of the above should take place.

I'm sorry but 12 years a slave was 2 hours a slow ass movie.


A best picture doesn't make my ass sore an hour into it.

Well, because I just haven't seen that many movies this year.
I was surprised by Dallas Buyers Club and could see it getting an award, and I'm no fan of Matthew McC, but he did an excellent job and I could see him getting best actor.

Saw 12yrs a slave and was completely underwhelmed by that movie. Some good acting and that girl that played the abused slave is up for best supporting actress, I thought she did a good job.

I thought Star Trek: Into Darkness was an excellent movie, but no way it's going to get any credit.

I'll end up seeing, at a later date The Wolf of Wall Street and Nebraska, but cant say since I have not seen them.

and fwiw.....I thought American Hustle was vastly overrated.....

American Hustle is another one I have not seen yet.

I'm with yoga... I didn't see what all the hype about American Hustle was about... It was just a really long, dragged out movie to me. It had a few good moments, but overall I'd say it was average.

Gravity was intense....and it should garner a few of those "technical/effects" awards....
It's a very captivating film.
