I predict Steve Martin, my favorite actor and comedian, will get an honorary Oscar.

Honestly, I don't think that I have seen a single movie that is nominated. Maybe I have, but I have not gone to any movie since last January that's not family related. So I guess if the movie "Frozen" is nominated, that would be the only one I could comment on. That is a good movie, I fell asleep for the beginning of it. But that was okay. Actually, no I didn't. I just started thinking about something else and dazed off. I never do that. So I must've been really tired.

Frozen - Animated. I want Ordinary Love because I like U2, but wouldn't be surprised if Let It Go wins - it's good enough.

I just reread this part. I guess you knew all along!

About the Oscars:

* I thought the jokes were really good, especially the first 30 minutes. Ellen did a good job.

I noticed her style was a little different than some of the ones from a few years ago. They would react to the person that just accepted the award, make a joke about it, then transition to the new segment.

She didn't do that.

* I thought the pizza thing was a little weird, and just kept getting weirder, with the delivery man, then putting money in the hat. It was a good weird though, I liked the randomness of it.

* Interesting that Judi Dench is working on a sequel to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. I don't know anything about that movie, I just found it interesting that someone at her age is still so busy.

* I liked Jared Leto's speech the best.

Frozen won Best Animated.

Let It Go won Original Song.

You went 1/2 based on what you wanted (which might not be what you predicted -- it's unclear from your post for Original Song what your official prediction was).

Ok, on Twelve Years A Slave:

* I'd previously seen a movie in which a fiance accepts dowry from the bride's family, then sells his wife to slavery. (Wow, not only did he get money from the dowry, but also from selling his fiancee).

So the theme of that movie was similar to Twelve Years A Slave. I saw that former movie in the mid 90s.

The main characters in that former movie were non-black, and I also think non-Indian too. I remember the race of the characters wasn't what the setting would suggest.

But it doesn't matter, the message is the same, showing the bad side of slavery.

So having already seen that, Twelve Years A Slave didn't have the impact that someone who had never seen a movie on slavery might feel.

I checked here, but none of these descriptoins match what I was thinking of:

List of films featuring slavery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

* The hanging scene, and the lashing scene were memorable.

* Overall, the movie was pretty good, and same with the acting. Doesn't feel like a "Best Picture" to me. Neither does Gravity, the other nominee I saw.

It's worth being talked about, but I won't put it in the best movies of all time.

And maybe like some others, I just prefer more entertaining movies, than message movies. I usually agree with the message of these movies anyways, so it's not like they would have a huge impact and change how I live. It is good to educate and remind how things used to be, though.

I haven't seen Django Unchained yet, so I can't compare it.

Liberal leftist democratic socialist! Just kidding. (Yes, I know, Hollywood has its conservative side, too.)
