I saw Blue Jasmine. Move is overrated but Cate was great. I agree with that choice. Also saw Dallas Buyers Club and loved both Matthew Mc and Leto. Both are deserving.

Looking forward to seeing American Hustle.

Tough, tough choices. My vote for best picture is a toss up between Dallas Buyers Club and 12 Years a Slave. Best Actor probably Dicaprio although I would not be mad if McConaughey wins it. I've only seen Amy Adams for actresses. Jared Leto for supporting actor definitely. For best supporting actress probably J-Law since I don't recognize the others.

I want to change my best picture vote to 12 years a slave definitively. Also, Captain Phillips got snubbed.

@KansasSooner Eh, it's something to talk about in a convo for 5 mins, not much else.

I'm gonna spend parts of tonight and tomorrow watching 4 of the nominated films, actors etc on dvd...
I've seen a few of the others at theaters a few weeks/months ago.

I'll post my choices sometime on sunday before the show starts.

Thought I'd throw up a poll for this since the academy awards are tomorrow.

There were a number of terrific films this year and this is a very difficult decision. Which do you think deserves the win?

I've only seen 12 Years and Wolf.

I liked 12 Years better overall.

Of course, I thought The Departed was one of the worst films Scorsese has made (still better than most films out there), and it won him his first Oscar. So who knows.

12 Years a Slave in my book.

I think that will be what wins and for me it is a toss-up between that and The Wolf of Wall Street. The Wolf of Wall Street was more entertaining, but 12 Years a Slave was more emotional and remarkably well acted.

I've seen 5 of the movies on this list and this is how I would rank them:
1. 12 Years a Slave
2. The Wolf of Wall Street
3. Gravity
4. American Hustle
5. Captain Phillips

All were very, very, good movies.

Really? I thought The Departed was one of his best. The Wolf of Wall Street really was a departure (no pun intended) from the movies he typically makes. Wolf was different from what I expected, but I really loved it.

Yeah, I'm in the minority with The Departed, I know. I'd still give it an 8/10, but most of his others or 9 or 10.

I'd give Wolf 8.5/10

Just me.

My vote goes to Wolf but I know it isn't coming close to winning.

I think it will be American Hustle even though I think 12 years, gravity and captain Phillips are more deserving.
