Rangers' Yu Darvish: Activated from DL, will start Saturday

Darvish (elbow) has been activated off the disabled list and he will get the start Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Darvish will be making his much-anticipated 2016 debut Saturday after missing the entire 2015 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. However, he won't likely go very deep in Saturday's outing as the Rangers will keep him on a pitch limit between 85 and 90 pitches. The Rangers optioned outfielder Joey Gallo in a corresponding move Saturday to clear a spot on the active roster for Darvish.

Rangers' Adrian Beltre: Homers for Rangers' only run Friday

Beltre went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's 9-1 loss to the Pirates.

The veteran slugger has two straight multi-hit games, and has now tallied 18 RBI during May. The homer was his first since May 17 versus the A's, and extended his team-leading RBI total to 32. He's slashed .269/.317/.462 over 182 at-bats this season.

Rangers' Robinson Chirinos: To begin rehab assignment Tuesday, rejoin Rangers June 9

Chirinos (forearm) is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment Tuesday and he is on pace to rejoin the Rangers when he's eligible on June 9, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

It was reported earlier in the week that Chirinos was ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken bone in his right forearm, and that continues to be the case as he'll set out on a rehab assignment Tuesday. He'll report to Double-A Frisco for one week, getting game reps in at catcher, before rejoining the Rangers on June 9 provided he remains on schedule. Once he is activated, the Rangers will likely have to choose between optioning Bryan Holaday or Bobby Wilson.

Not sure how you option Wilson but this may be a tough choice for them

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Hit hard by Pirates in Friday defeat

Hamels (5-1) surrendered eight hits, six runs (five earned) and two walks over 4.2 innings in Friday's 9-1 loss to the Pirates. He struck out five.

The veteran southpaw suffered his first loss of the season, and the long ball was a big part of his undoing. Hamels was touched up for a solo shot by Starling Marte in the second, and then fell victim to a three-run knockout blow from Jung-Ho Kang in the fifth. The 32-year-old has now given up eight homers over the last four starts, and has seen his ERA rise almost a full run during May to 3.34. He'll try to bounce back next Wednesday versus Trevor Bauer and the Indians.

Considering he only had one at bat there's no explanation right now. They could have had Gallo pinch hit last night down by 8 runs.
