Especially from knight, but if Oz is out of equation, and some of the other options for Denver fall apart, I could actually see Elway riding with Manning for one more try because he might not have a much better route to go. Before you jump all over the possibility of that happening, look at what could change Denver's options if those scenarios present themselves. This post should produce some major response but I am beginning to see some crazy outcomes possibly happening everywhere.:)

Well listening to Mike Klis this morning who actually is very close with the Manning family he was very honest in saying that the Manning/Elway relationship really did deteriorate this year. So I just can't see that being an option anymore. Even if Osweiler leaves and they struggle to find a replacement I think there are a lot of other options they would pursue first. So for me I give the chance that Manning is our QB next season about a 1% chance.

Archie wants Peyton in LA. I'd say it's a forgone conclusion he ends up in horns.

Watch Denver trade up to the middle rounds to take a QB. Paxton Lynch seems like an Elway guy. Big and tall like BO. With your D, and having just won the SB, you can afford to roll w a rookie.

This has actually been my thought for the past week since I have been seeing how much the price of Osweiler looks like it is going up compared to what most thought he would get. If we can't get Osweiler locked up then yeah I see Elway willing to be aggressive to get his guy and I do think Paxton is high on his list. I do know he has contacted all of his previous coaches going back to high school and they have talked to him at least a few times already.

And making that move would give Denver a better shot at a SB return than bringing Manning back? Why not bring Manning back and draft Prescott,Cook or Hackenburg, along with Simiean, and let them compete for the job? Makes no sense to move up. Any of the top 4 qbs in draft have about the same shot to succeed in year 1,and be a better option than Peyton,as the next 4 do. The Op isn't near as farfetched IMO.:)

I guess it just depends. If Elway sees the future of the Broncos in the kid then yeah you try to trade up. Throw in then it means the Broncos have the most important position locked in at a cheap price for the next 5 years. Now if they don't like him all that much more than say Prescott or Cook then yeah to me you stay where you are and get them at your pick instead of losing more draft capital to trade up. QB to me though is the one position I really am ok with the team trying to trade up. I trust Elway and Kubiak probably more than any other combo in the NFL at being able to find a QB and mold them into a high quality player.

I will say after watching too Connor Cook games today he is moving up my list. I really liked what I saw from the guy. I know the whole him not being captain and some of his off putting attitude at times looks bad but his actual play on the field before his injury this year was pretty impressive.

You put it that way, and Cook sounds like a former Vanderbilt player we are well familiar with.

I'm pretty certain Manning's tank is nearly empty. The odds of him returning are slim, and I expect if he plays that next season will make this season look outstanding. We'd have a better chance with Siemian.

At QB, you trade to get the guy you want if he's not going to be around for a regular pick. High risk, but high reward.

You don't want anything to do w Cook. He's not even worth a 7th.

Reality is you're probably not winning the SB again this year, but you get a rookie in there to take his bumps managing that D, and you are back in the mix the following year.

Peyton doesn't want to play in Denver anymore. He's LA bound.

Cutler? Apples to oranges. Cook doesn't have half of Cutty's arm power. Cutler was a far superior prospect coming out of college. Cook will barely make a serviceable back up in the NFL.

Two things not yet mentioned:
1) Cap hit. Manning is not going to take another pay cut and with Miller's tag we are a little over 2016 cap.

2) We are assuming the defense performs at the same level and we get the same lucky breaks again. Offense needs to produce more than last year for a repeat and I don't see it happening with Manning.

This I'm curious about. There's just so much that can mean. Were they like best buds before and now they only talk from time to time? Did they go from barely tolerating each other to outright hating each other? Without knowing the start point or the end point there's just so much room for interpretation about how their relationship deteriorated.

I don't know, maybe I'm naive but I just have a hard time believing it. Everyone handled everything so professionally all the way, and we won the Super Bowl, so I just have a hard time understanding what this is all about. Unless Elway wanted to bench Manning sooner and Manning just refused, it just doesn't make sense to me. Or maybe Elway really is upset that Manning hasn't already announced his retirement, but I have a hard time believing that as well because I think the Broncos had already decided to move on from Manning, and Elway understands how hard it is to hang them up for good (remember, Elway didn't announce his retirement until May).

I just keep going back to the fact that despite everything that happened, we still won the Super Bowl. To me, that's the kind of salve that can heal over a lot of issues and hurt feelings.

I obviously don't know whether the relationship between Elway and Manning did deteriorate or the extent to which it might have. Have to think that the poor offensive play that we saw for most of the year was frustrating to both guys, though. Throw in that there were questions about how to tailor Kubiak's offense to PM's strengths, how healthy PM was at various times, and the fact that both guys are very competitive and it doesn't seem implausible to me that the relationship might have been strained.

Agree with your point about how the team still managed to win the SB. To me, Kubiak was in a very tough spot. He came through well.
