The Eagles and Sam Bradford reached a deal for a two-year contract worth $36M with $26M in guarantees and $4M in incentives. Cuz's agent will argue this sets a floor for an $18M AAV and more in terms of guaranteed cash. The Redskins will counter and contend that the two-year deal is the same type of out they've been seeking. Unfortunately for the Redskins, however, Cousins still has most of the leverage here.

In any case, this is a bonehead move by Howie Roseman and the Eagles. If they were giving him that much cash, why not franchise him and get a one-year out, prove-it deal instead?

The reason why AAV is important with Bradford's contract is because most of it is guaranteed cash, thus making the AAV a truer reflection of the contract's worth. Next, we'll see Bradford break his wrist signing the deal.

There you have it. Bradford's deal is the floor for KC. Now KC probably shouldn't be much higher, but it will be higher. The interesting part is the guarantee. That's huge for this guy. Philly just screwed themselves and the rest of the league with this contract for Bradford.

That's always the fear: some middling guy gets awarded a deal far in excess of his worth and sets the market much higher than it should be be. Some are pointing out that the Eagles got lucky with a deal that provides them with a two-year out. But that can also prove beneficial to Bradford since is basically can be viewed as a the rough equivalent of a two-year franchise deal. He can bet on himself those two years and, if he proves he's better than average, he's young enough to land one more big deal in a career which has seen him get paid millions of dollars for basically less than average play.

This just proves SM offer of 15M was a joke. Kc is in a great spot here. He is going to make 20M on the tag plus if he puts up 30 total Td's in 2016 he will be in the 20M annual long term deal. I don't think KC will sign a long term deal now.

So his cap hit this year is $12.5 milllion. Unless he gets injured which would bring it up to $16.5 million. Why teams write in deals that say i will pay you more in the event you get hurt is beyond me though.

All in all, he will cost them between $3 and $7 million less than Kirk is currently on the books for.

I know this effects us to some degree but I don't care. I hate the Eagles and this is great news. Sam Bradford has stolen more money in relation to his talent/production than Ringo Star. But they had little choice, which makes it even better. If he couldn't produce in Chip's offense then it's pretty clear he isn't any good.

Why would this deal or anything else at this pt discourage Cousins from signing a long term deal? I would guess the thing preventing the long term deal at this pt is average per year & the degree of outs in the contract.

If the two sides could negotiate a compromise in these areas I would think that Cousins would be more than agreeable. Cousins is risking a lot with the one year deal since he could lose lots of $$ if he gets injured or plays poorly. He could also simply focus on football and winning if he had a long term deal. I don't think that this is over by a long shot.

He's the type of guy that may have been a candidate for the transition tag or simply one to test the FA market (to ultimately find out he had no takers). Again, this should play right into Cousins' hands. Among many other things, Cuz's 23 TDs in his last 10 games last year was more than Bradford has ever passed for in any off his seasons, including both of Bradford's 16 game seasons. Still don't know why they didn't tag him and given them the option to take an off ramp next year. Now if they want to cut ties next year, they're potentially looking at some big cap numbers -- at least $15M in dead money.

Just read that that Eagles will still have about $17M in space this year after signing Bradford but that his cap number will be $23.5M next year. His base salary this year must be awfully low.

Quarterback Contracts and Salaries | Over The Cap

In terms of Bradford/Watt - that is just a reflection of the fact that QBs get paid much more than any other position. You can't read anything more into that. Look at some of the other highly paid QBs - they are paid in the same range & some of these guys are nowhere close to being elite.

In terms of Cousins negotiating power - remember this works both ways. His agent will argue about getting the team to the playoffs, his records, 2nd half etc. However - the Redskins will counter with some of the things you always hear from the naysayers here - poor performance prior to this season, didn't beat a winning team this season, etc, etc. This is all part of negotiating. I feel confident that they will work this out over time.
