Tanaka seems to be a TORP pitcher as well. Two really good pitchers in Tanaka and Darvish that should change the mindset of MLB owners of future pitchers coming out of Japan. There was a lot of negative feelings about them when Yu was first coming over to the MLB.

Tap the brakes on Tanaka for a bit. At least let him finish this season and throw some next year before we say such things.
Cause....remember Dice K?
He's a big reason why there were/are negative feelings...

Yu was really viewed quite a bit differently from most Japanese pitchers, even initially. His size and strength made him different from the "typical" breaking ball pitcher coming over.

This is what, at least somewhat, frustrated me with Darvish was his insistence on throwing so many breaking pitches when he can throw so hard and with various movements as well. But it looks like he's starting (ed) to figure this out and he can damn near be unhittable at times now. And that's regardless of opponent.

Xx srs......never mind. I selectively read your post, and totally missed your line about Dice K.

Get it, and agree.

Yu was far worse than Tanaka has been in first year comparisons. Not saying he will keep pitching at this level but I will stick my neck out and say he is no worse than a 2 in the rotation. I knew I would hear back about Tanaka but I would love to have him in our rotation.

Me too. I believe Terps is one that's not a believer in Tanaka. That split finger is nasty.

Pretty sure you can put romeo in that category too.

McCann was saying Tanaka is a tireless worker. Reads and studies as well as anyone he's ever caught. And has a bulldog attitude once giving up hits too.

Any word on Mitch's second opinion? Should be having some sort of surgery soon.

Havent seen anything yet... just saw Tepid say "Wow." on twitter though.
But he quickly deleted it.

Has me worried. Or intrigued. Not sure which.

Well, I'll fear the worst but hope to be pleasantly surprised. Surgery either way for him.

Maybe one day people won't bring up Dice K when they mention other Japanese pitchers.

Honestly.....there's only been like 35 pitchers from Japan to have played in MLB. I guess that huge contract some just can't let go of.

I'm having a hard time thinking there's any "good news" concerning MM for the 2014 season; regardless of which surgery route he pursues.

Everyone is high on Alfaro for good reason, but Telis just won defender of the month.

Telis, who turns 23 next Wednesday, appeared in 14 games behind the plate and started once at third base for the RoughRiders in May. Overall, Telis has played 31 games at catcher this season for Frisco and compiled a .990 fielding percentage (3 E/291 TC). He has also thrown out 15 of 55 (27.3%) would-be basestealers. At the plate, Telis is batting .328 (59-180) with 12 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, and 27 RBI. The Venezuela native currently boasts the highest average in the Texas League after batting .369 (38-103) over 26 games in May.

Klein, 25, compiled a 0.71 ERA (1 ER/12.2 IP) and converted all 6 save opportunities over 9 relief appearances in May. The right-hander recorded 14 strikeouts against just 3 walks and limited opposing batters to a .122 average (5-41). Klein finished the month with 8.2 scoreless innings over his last 6 appearances, a scoreless streak that currently stands at 11.2 innings. The former Youngstown State Penguin has gone 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA (3 ER/28.1 IP) and 37 strikeouts over 20 relief appearances with the ‘Riders this season. He is currently tied for 4th in the Texas League with 7 saves.

I have a hard time understanding why we don't call up some of these guys that can help our bullpen.

Frisco has been doing great. At Hickory, and I know it is low A, some catcher named Joe Jackson has hit 377 in the 25 games he has played there and Hickory has gone 22-5 since Joe started playing for them.
