Does the 2013 Seahawks defense deserve to be considered one of the best ever?

Legion of boom definitely deserves to be in the same discussion as the steel curtain.

Not saying they are better, but Seattle's D is easily top 5 all time. The way the NFL favors this pass happy league? Seattle hands down in the discussion.

Maybe so, but let's not put them up there with historic teams like the Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Packers, and Giants just yet.......?

Why not? The season is over, you can comparé them to any single season defense before them, of course era should be considered.

I knew before I came up here that even winning by 35 fucking points against the leagues number 1 defense that there would still be those unwilling to give the team its due.

That defense did what it did to many teams all year and completely smothered them, hit them hard and often, disrupted Manning, made his O line look pedestrian at best, and created turnovers. When a team does that all year how on earth is it a sign that Denver choked?

There is no excuse from not giving COMPLETE credit to that defense and what they did to what was the leagues best offense. One safety doesn't end up destroying a team by 35. It just doesn't.

I am giving Seattle its due man. I am the one that created this fucking thread. Have some common sense.

I am just saying that there are 2 sides to every coin. It is obvious to anyone that watched the game that Seattle was the better team but it was also obvious to anyone that watched the game that Denver did not play up to their ability.

I dont mean defensively, I mean the whole team's history.

Well in comparison to the longevity of those past defensive units then yea, they haven't put in the time yet. But when talking about the '85 Bears, or the 2000 Ravens and so on… The 2013 Seahawks are going to need to be brought into the discussion.

Ok then, dunno why i am even responding to you but what about all the other teams the Hawks played this season and last? i guess they were all just a fluke right?

Personally I would put them at #5 all time. My list would look like this:

1. 1985 Bears - Nobody will ever top them, period.
2. 2000 Ravens - Closest ever to matching the 85 Bears
3. 70's Steel Curtain - The longest stretch of dominate D
4. 2002 Buccaneers
5. 2013 Seahawks

As far as the secondary goes, I don't think you can really compare modern Ds to the ones from the old days. For that reason, I would rank Seattle as the 2nd best based on this current era behind only the 2002 Buccaneers.

I agree, they were impressive. Lots of size and speed. But still, fuck Seattle.

I think everyone is getting confused… The discussion is bouncing between a defensive unit that is dominant for a single season, and a unit that was dominant for multiple seasons.

Seattle is dominant for now, but they haven't put in the time yet to be considered on the same level of the steel curtain. I'm not saying that they won't, because I think they definitely can! They just need to put in the time is all. We'll see in a few years how dominant they still are.

The 02 Bucs are in 'the discussion' and they were basically legit for 1 season. Seattle's D last season was pretty legit too.

Nailed it. Would give Seattle the nod as best secondary though.

Sapp, Rice, McFarland, Brooks.... Seattle doesn't have anyone on their front 7 that even compares to that. If you gave the legion of boom the Bucs front 7, they'd have allowed 0 points the entire season.

The 02 Bucs are in the discussion because they won the Superbowl that year, but that D was dominant for years.

I hate when people compare the 85 Bears Defense to the Steel Curtain. The 85 Bears D was a product of a brand new, never before seen, defensive scheme that completely changed the way that offenses operate. It only took a single offseason for offensive coordinators to figure out the weaknesses of that defensive scheme and exploit them. That defense was only dominant for a single season… Tiny in comparison to what the Steel Curtain accomplished.

But still, the 85 Bears came up with something that nobody had an answer for at the time. It was genius, and they dominated the entire league.

Considering Seattle went up against the best offense the NFL has ever seen...and just kicked the shit out of them, yes, feel free to call the Seahawk defense The Best Ever.

I give up.

So everytime an upset happens, the team that upset the other team was actually better all along? And everytime a team makes mistakes, it was always the other team that should be credited with causing it? That is idiotic to believe that.

Sometimes, teams have bad games. Yes, the opponent can and is a part of it. But teams also can play bad on their own too. I believe Denver did play poorly on its own and because of Seattle. It was a combination of both. Why do you think by me saying that that I am not giving Seattle credit?
