Does the 2013 Seahawks defense deserve to be considered one of the best ever?

I think a few were better such as the 85 Bears, 00 Ravens, etc, but I think they are definitely a top 10 and maybe top 5 that I have seen.

Thoughts?

No but this might be the most impressive Super Bowl performance ever by a defense.

I think there's a really strong argument that they have the best secondary ever.

Um, the 1985 Bears gave up -19 yards in the first half, and New England didn't even get into positive yards until garbage time.

The 1985 Bears weren't playing against the best offense in NFL history.

When you totally dominate the best offense in the history of game how can you not get the respect of being one of the top defenses in history?

Really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. They did what almost none of you thought was even remotely possible and completely dismantled Manning and that offense. Bringing home the title is good enough. Your respect is optional.

#1 in the triple crown. 86 punt's yards allowed all season. Total domination of Peyton Manning. The guy that was going to shred the Seattle D. But didn't.

There has NEVER been a better D. The best no name D.

Yes. The first team in almost 30 years to lead the league in yards against, points against and turnovers caused. And just dismantled the "greatest offense of all time".

Definitely well deserving of the conversation. I've been involved in that sort of debate for too long and it never comes to a conclusion. Not worth getting into because of all the stats that will start flying around. All that needs to be said is that they are definitely one of the best defenses. And like cwood said, probably the best defensive showing in a super bowl.

they just made the most dominant offensive team in the nfl with a QB who had one of the greatest seasons ever look incompetent.

it would be difficult for any legit sports fan to not at least include them in the conversation.

Well, lets be fair and call a spade a spade Hawks fans. The Hawks played well IN COMBINATION with Denver playing horrible. The snap into the endzone is one example of bad execution unrelated to the team on the other sideline.

Well thats one play. Then there were many, many, many more where the defense covered, tackled and pressured in dominating fashion.

Maybe so, but let's not put them up there with historic teams like the Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Packers, and Giants just yet.......?

I knew before I came up here that even winning by 35 fucking points against the leagues number 1 defense that there would still be those unwilling to give the team its due.

That defense did what it did to many teams all year and completely smothered them, hit them hard and often, disrupted Manning, made his O line look pedestrian at best, and created turnovers. When a team does that all year how on earth is it a sign that Denver choked?

There is no excuse from not giving COMPLETE credit to that defense and what they did to what was the leagues best offense. One safety doesn't end up destroying a team by 35. It just doesn't.
