i don't know being a tattle tail doesn't usually work in your favor. sure you MAY get the bully to stop but people are going to lose trust in you or it could make more people bully you as well. I still believe the best way to stop bullying is to stand up to the bully.

Nope but Martin would after he hit RI.
How do you know he didn't stand up to him but it failed? Sounds like RI had teammates backing him up in all of this so you are asking a guy to stand up to possibly 5 other guys that are 300 lbs. or so. His coach has said that when he was asked why he was leaving the team he said nothing of any of this happening to him so not sure I would say he is a tattle tail in all of this. I'm guessing the NFL pushed a little harder on him during their investigation so then maybe he did but why is that viewed as weakness to stand up in that way? He walked away, possibly told the NFL why he walked away, has helped raise awareness about bullying, and never really lost it through 2 years of constant bullying.
Now to your telling kids to just toughen up and continue to be themselves no matter what somebody says...Come on you have to know it is more complicated than that. We have kids who come out as gay then every single day are physically abused, called every name in the book, and are threatened sometimes of their very lives. We have girls who are being pressured to be sexually active by our society then when they possibly are then have communities begin to spread rumors about how they are sluts or whatever. We have kids that are raped and then told that they are at fault for that happening. We have major colleges that have covered up athletes who have been caught in assault and r*pe cases left and right. We have our own military that is in huge trouble for covering up sexual assaults for years now. People who are in a position to help most of these people have been some of the worst in bullying them to keep their mouths shut. You tell somebody to be themselves is opening themselves up to a whole world of hurt. It is not those who want to be themselves that need to be changed. Those that need to be changed are those who are the bullies in these situations. They need to be the ones who have their names dragged through the dirt. They are the ones that need a change in their world view. Only then are we truly going to see real change in this world.
Rave, clarify exactly how he should go about standing up to him.

I think the Columbine kids felt that way as well...Listen...I understand where you're coming from. I worked for a bully...no, I was never feared him from a physical standpoint but his way of managing people was to yell and scream, intimating ppl...after a bad month, he really lit into a couple of my subordinates that I managed. To the point one young lady was at her desk crying. I finally stood up to him, but I went through HR channels to do it (i.e. snitched).
A week after my meeting with HR, he was still a gruffy kind of guy, but he rarely ever yelled anymore and if he did have a problem he directed it to me from that point forward.
If I had handled the way I grew up handling a bully I would have gotten fired.
We're talking about a grown man pushing somebody's buttons for the empowerment or thrill of it I guess... not sure if talking or coming to fisticuffs was going to solve this.
i would have played that voice mail for the team to hear, i would have got in his face, i would have told him you can't bother me, many ways to stand up to bullies....Hell i wouldn't have cared if he would have punched RI, fighting isn't the best answer but it would have let RI know he wasn't going to take his shit.
Isn't playing the voice mail like tattle tailing as you called it earlier? So he shouldn't have told the NFL or coaches what was happening to him but he should tell his teammates? Seems like you can't have that both ways to me.
Who's putting Incognito in jail?
I was wondering if i was the only one that caught this

Seems like you can't have that both ways to me. You have to remember Martin wasn't the only one this was happening to as other teammates have said the same things were happening to them and by multiple veterans on the team. This wasn't just an isolated incident between Martin and Icognito. Martin stood up to him by just finally saying enough is enough and walked away before he did something stupid that would get him in legal trouble. Through his actions he is also now helping other teammates that were/are going through the exact same kind of actions towards them. To me that is pretty impressive. The whole NFL is having to take a step back and look at how they conduct themselves.
it's kind of snitching, but at least with him telling the whole team, there is no way for it to get covered up. I have to ask why didn't the other teammates this was happen to not come to Martins aid and why didn't they stand up to RI as a group?
there are other ways to stand up to bullies than fighting, but i'm not a fan of snitching.
I'm really neutral on that now because most crimes are solved because somebody snitched.
I know in that case in the work place...we had face to face discussions many times over his actions. I would not have been able to resolve that with him directly because his position was over mine even though we reported to the same boss. They had a protocol to follow which is what I did.
The Columbine HS killers....Jonathan Martin...both were bullied...which pussy would you prefer? I'd take Martin anyday.
Goddamn I hate bullies. I might go break this guys fucking arm. lol
i'm not faulting you for doing what you did i just don't resort to that unless it's a last ditch effort. in your case i think maybe the threat of going to HR might have caused him to stop, or maybe talking to him as a group might have caused him to stopThere are a lot of different ways to handle different situations is all i'm saying.
