Nelly won't sign first is basically we we aren't signing him right now. I don't know if he wants to test the market after choo signs or what. Perhaps, because JD knows this, he is holding that extra year he is willing to offer in the bank until choo signs. If he offered him the extra year now, then choo signed, then nelly might ask for another one. Just a theory, but seems logical enough to me

i dont know specifics, but i do know that nelly won't sign first. I don't know why we just dont add another year now since we're willing to. Im likely not be getting ALL the info either, so keep that in mind

The only reason I could guess that Cruz doesn't sign first, is that he could demand more...from anyone. Anyway, appreciate the info Terps.

Holy mother and all the Saints and Sinners, these are some pretty strange plans
roll out whatever, we'll obviously be rooting for them

If I find out anything else I'll try to get back on. Wasn't that much info, but at least somethings that havent been mentioned yet nonetheless. Let me remind you that we're still well under our payroll from last year. A legitimate plan B might actually be tanaka. I mean if we for some crazy reason don't land choo and just get nelly, we'd probably still have enough to make it interesting... anyway, I'll keep you guys posted

Enjoy your time with your family, Terps. Everything will be settled here in due time.

I'm agreeing with you, I'm sick of them both.
little choice we apparently have
This is my 1st off season since joining ESPN/ SportsHoopla. Disappointing. Was looking for more excitement.

The days leading up to the winter meetings were pretty eventful. We finally have a 1B.

I don't know how much sense that makes. I don't know why we would trade Moreland and our 4th OFer (in the scenario that we acquire Cruz and Choo).
Choo, Martin, and Rios in the OF is ideal. So if we could get Cruz to DH then it works, but if not, trading Moreland just doesn't make any sense.
No it doesn't make sense.

we'll see,
obviously

I am hoping that things will start to move along with our off-season now that Tanaka is available. I'm sure Choo knows that we're interested in Tanaka and one of his only suitors could be getting close to their payroll.

I tend to agree, Boras is saying he wants 8...but so what.
This is getting pretty crazy, we did get Fielder for essentialy 10 mill a year, but that was to replace already missing production.

Granted Choo's production is higher than Kinsler's, but that much higher?
Choo is to cover the OF with a lead-off type hitter.
We're going to pay 140 million/8 years to replace a Kinsler like lead off? (better, but not that much$ better)

No, we're not.

I don't believe he turned it down either, the whole effing thing is strange.
Nor do I believe ANY team is giving Choo 8 years for that kind of money, JFC...he's not close to worth it

How do you figure this?

His original contract was 9 years 214 million, he's played 2 years of that, at about 23 million per year, so subtract 2 years and around 46 million

So, he's owed about 168 million over the next 7 years, only 30 million of which Detroit is picking up, and that doesn't start til 2016

leaving US owing him 138 over the next 7 years, a shade under 20 million per year
