I'd rather trade Choice and keep Rio's bat in the line-up otherwise we really didn't add anything to the line-up and added a pitcher. Then we still do not have a clear option at DH though...unless Cruz will consider it.

Rios is a FA after this year so I could see them moving either of those 2. I would still rather trade Choice because of the unknown. I really don't care because I would be so happy that we added 2 bats. That's what most of us have said we're short still.

I don't know how much sense that makes. I don't know why we would trade Moreland and our 4th OFer (in the scenario that we acquire Cruz and Choo).
Choo, Martin, and Rios in the OF is ideal. So if we could get Cruz to DH then it works, but if not, trading Moreland just doesn't make any sense.

We'd have two outfielders signed. The reason it makes sense is because cruz won't sign here unless we convince him that he'll get to play a little bit. So if you sign Choo and have Cruz be your 4th of/DH and then have your 5th of be beltre, then you can afford to trade choice and moreland. Cruz would take morelands spot at DH. Obviously, we'd have to sign both before we make the trade, but thats what the discussions and the plan is at the moment.

I think I read the Angels would get close to a billion or more...don't remember for sure

I may be wrong but I thought our contract was about a billion plus and the Angels was about 3 billion.

The only problem with the theory is Choo. Because with scott boras you can never be surprised to see his clients hold out til they get what they want. So if he waited til the end of january to sign or something, then it might be too late to then quickly sign cruz and make a pretty substantial trade for a good pitcher

right, this is what is concerning a lot of us.

Are there back up plans or are we waiting until the end of January?

so a best case scenario according to all this would be
1. Choo RF
2. Elvis SS
3. Fielder 1B
4. Beltre 3B
5. Cruz DH/LF
6. Rios LF/DH
7. Profar 2B
8. Soto C
9. Martin CF

if so, plus it allows us to add a good SP in a trade...then I say great off season and bring on the season and all takers!!!

That's pretty much what I said in one of my statements. "IF" you can get Cruz to agree to be a DH first, and platoon in the OF then it seems like a very good plan.

Any ideas on the pitcher?

I don't know in depth what the backup plan is, but like I said earlier, if I was a betting man, I would put my chips on us signing Cruz. Maybe we can make him an offer that he wants without waiting for choo to sign first.

Hence the problem

The text from about a week and a half ago told me "all of the obvious names are who we'd go for"

Are they even talking to Cruz, because reports are two years and no more...but I would assume they haven't shut the door

then again, who knows

No word that he's looking at Morales?

So maybe I have been out of the loop, but who are the obvious names we would go for other than Price?

Which is exactly what I think we should be doing. Don't wait on the back-up plan. Sign the back up plan if he's part of your main goal anyways.

I haven't heard about morales at all. That doesnt necessarily mean we havent spoken to him though. It could just be that my friend hasn't heard about it. Every time we've spoken with nellys agent talks have been productive, and I also heard JD isn't worried about adding an extra year at this point. If we signed choo, they are thinking he'll go right to cruz and add a year to the offer and try to get things rolling quick.

I don't understand why we can't sign Cruz first?

i dont know specifics, but i do know that nelly won't sign first. I don't know why we just dont add another year now since we're willing to. Im likely not be getting ALL the info either, so keep that in mind
