I can't post much right now because I am visiting family on the east coast, but I'll do my best to recap only a couple of conversations I've had with my friend.

1) I saw the yankee Choo thing, and obviously I can't tell you for certain whether its true, it just sounds really fishy. Especially the very first word of that tweet....

2) The rangers have not changed their offer to choo and we spoke directly to choo on Monday. He confirmed that he wants to come to texas and we asked him if anything had changed with him and any other teams and he said no. Basically, all signs point to him coming here, he's just waiting for us to budge a little bit. I can confirm our offer isn't 140 million that the tweet above states.

3) If I was a betting man, which thankfully I'm not, regardless of what happens with choo ( I am positive he'll come here, but still anything can happen) I would say Cruz is going to end up back here. We've talked to his agent and things have been very productive every time they have spoken. The extra year he wants does not seem out of the question for JD, but Nelly wants Choo to sign so then all of the attention shifts to him.

4) We've scouted tanaka extensively the last year. I think it will come down to us, the yankees, and LA for him. In other words, thats a bidding competition we won't win.

5) Our plan has been, for the past few weeks, to sign both choo and cruz and then trade an outfielder and moreland for a pitcher, because we don't think we're going to win the tanaka race. The reports that moreland isnt available are false.

Hopefully some of this was insightful.

I'm calling bs. This has Boras stink all over it.

I tend to agree, Boras is saying he wants 8...but so what.
This is getting pretty crazy, we did get Fielder for essentialy 10 mill a year, but that was to replace already missing production.

Granted Choo's production is higher than Kinsler's, but that much higher?
Choo is to cover the OF with a lead-off type hitter.
We're going to pay 140 million/8 years to replace a Kinsler like lead off? (better, but not that much$ better)

No, we're not.

I don't believe he turned it down either, the whole effing thing is strange.
Nor do I believe ANY team is giving Choo 8 years for that kind of money, JFC...he's not close to worth it

 Thanks for the update, Terps. Hopefully this all may be resolved this year, but I doubt it.

I don't believe Choo comes here until he's here and signed, only one team has to beat our offer, and Boras will wait, the only hope is Choo doesn't want to wait.

On #5. What OFer? I'm assuming Rios or Choice. What would we do at DH then?

Choice was the name I was told, but then he clarified and said "well, i guess any of the other guys would do"

So...Rios, Martin, or Choice. I don't know about trading an OF along with Moreland. I still don't know what we would be planning to do at DH if we trade Mitch.

I would think it would be Choice as a team trading a top pitcher would want top prospects, ML ready players, and not to take on salary. Choice and Moreland plus whatever would do that. Now an OF of Choo, Rios, Cruz and Martin....with Beltre as 5th outfielder...hmmm who plays where...esp if Cruz refuses to DH?

I was told 6 years and under 20 million. Don't have anything exact, but because it was under 20 I assumed worst case scenario and chose 19. The number I thought it was 6/114. But like I said before, when he told me 6 years I don't know if that was 6 with an option, just plain 6, or 5 with an option. 6 seems to be the number we're at though

What? I don't get any of this...he trades Martin and who is going to play CF?

I didn't say martin, he said choice. Then he said I guess it could be any of them. I think he might have been exaggerating a bit and was referring to rios as well and didnt even think about martin. I don't think we'd trade leonys, but rios and choice don't seem too out of the question

I figured we'd trade someone like Choice and Mitch. Then if you sign both choo and nelly, whoever isn't playing right can DH. I was thinking we would do something like that. Then they could both have off days and Nelly would be somewhat happy because he was getting semi regular playing time. I don't know, when he told me it made sense. He made it sound like an awesome idea lol maybe I'm not explaining it correctly. But I feel like it makes sense

I don't know how much sense that makes. I don't know why we would trade Moreland and our 4th OFer (in the scenario that we acquire Cruz and Choo).
Choo, Martin, and Rios in the OF is ideal. So if we could get Cruz to DH then it works, but if not, trading Moreland just doesn't make any sense.

I'd rather trade Choice and keep Rio's bat in the line-up otherwise we really didn't add anything to the line-up and added a pitcher. Then we still do not have a clear option at DH though...unless Cruz will consider it.

Sadly even with the new contract kicking in we're actually much lower than other teams including the Angels. I thought I read somewhere that their deal will pay them 2 or 3 times more. When they signed the contract with Fox it was clear Fox came out as the winner because if the contract had to be redone again their annual payout would probably be doubled.

I think I read the Angels would get close to a billion or more...don't remember for sure

The only problem with the theory is Choo. Because with scott boras you can never be surprised to see his clients hold out til they get what they want. So if he waited til the end of january to sign or something, then it might be too late to then quickly sign cruz and make a pretty substantial trade for a good pitcher
