Some believe he pulls names out of a hat for the batting order.....lately hes been better.....the days of raturd batting 3rd are gone. I do believe he had don kelly batting 3rd once this year...

Leylands problem is his decision making with the bullpen....he loves phil coke....he always would throw valverde out there in a non save situation, where history showed valverde was horrible in those situations....well in save situations in the end also.

Hes also very loyal to the vets.....santiago????

Plus as smitty likes to notice.....he loves stuffing his face in the post game interview

I am fine with Santiago for this year.. next year.. it will be either Perez or Worth.. but Santiago has been fine this year for his role...

I also love watching leyland eat when reporters are asking questions.. he has done it for years... its hilarious... He has to eat his food when he has the chance or else Lamont will eat it.

He batted ryan raburn THIRD!!!!!!!!

THIRD!!!!!

MORE THAN ONCE!!!!!

MORE THAN TWICE!!!!

Had boesch in the 2 hole ......kelly batting 3rd......cmon man....

This year.. it has not been an issue. Kelly actually hit when he was a starter.

He LOVES stuffing his face! Do an interview... Nah I brought a ham sandwich in my lunch. Ahhhh helll, why not both!?! (The current team has basically been de-Leylandized. He has to hate having actual starters. Unless its Sunday or the last game of a series..)

Worth should NEVER be on the roster...he brings nothing.

Yeah DD has given him players that need to start everyday.....took raturd and inge away....gave boesch away.....now only on afternoon getaway games do we see crazy lineups. Long gone are the days of jimmy finding a way to get raturd in the lineup....

Its only miggys 6th year with the tigers.....tell me how many tigers are left from the 06 team that opened this so called window...

Why list coke, AA, worth, kelly, and santiago.....im sure every team has a list of so called bums....coke did great last year in the playoffs.....worth? Why even mention him....he wont be on the playoff roster...hell the tigers could still bring back peralta.

Funny how bums hates the tigers so much, he just makes crap up....this is fielders 2nd yr with the tigers....iggy just got here.....ajax is young....castellanos is young and future LF....sanchez fister and JV are in their primes...once hunter and vmart are done, you dont think detroit will go out and get something with the money?

I wont even comment on miggy....i dont see him slowing down anytime soon.

Id like to hear what makes the royals future contenders....isnt their window closing? Butler? Shields? Santana? Hosmer will leave once his contract is up....yankees? Whats left? Gordon? :laugh3:
Well, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. Who preceded Miggy as "the best hitter in baseball"? Where is he now? I'm not saying Miggy will have that same fate, just that you don't have to look too far back in history to see how quickly guys can lose it.

Without the strong complimentary additions DD wouldn't have Detroit in the drivers seat of the Central for te third straight year.(and somewhere in midst of their competitive window) Fister, Infante, Peralta, Iggy, Torii, Benoit, Polanco, Guillen.... All major contributors now, or in past playoff runs. (None expensive, aside from Hunter) Even less than complimentary reserve utility guys like Don Kelly and Ramon Santiago have stepped up when called upon enough to keep the Tigs in first this summer. (Four game sweep in Cleveland without Miggy)
I never said complimentary guys aren't important. But they're more easily replaced than the core guys.

the thread that stated the Royals took another series from Detroit, got ya, Congrats on not namecalling to help your point stand stronger.

Guess in 2 to 3 years, you might understand mine.
Where am I namecalling?

the Tigers problems begin and end with Jim Leyland.

they have underachieved EVERY year with this old buzzard despite him having great talent to work with.

he is a terrible manager.
I don't disagree with this, he is terrible, but I don't know that they underachieved last year. I'd say they "achieved", if you catch my drift.

Worth is fecal.. but he can play infield positions.. and will be cheap and fill the role santiago has this year... I would rather it be Perez.

Miggy still has 3 good years....if he moves to DH, he will prolong his career.

Injuries are the only thing that scares me....

I actually saw Gene Lamont pull out a sandwich from his back pocket last year at 3rd base and wipe the sweat off his fat disgusting head with it.. then take a bite.

:agree:

He is a good piece to the roster. The Tigers are better when he plays... His defense is top notch... But there are better lead off hitters in the MLB, and when the time comes, I don't think the Tigers should open the wallet... there are plenty of young kids that can play defense in CF that can be drafted and developed in the next few seasons until Jackson becomes expensive...
There really aren't many. Seriously, go look. Maybe a handful, if that. I had this same discussion when defending Brett Gardner as the Yankees' leadoff hitter. Jackson is a better hitter than Gardner, and Gardner was 5th in MLB in leadoff OBP when I was having the discussion (back in July I believe).

Jackson is no franchise player, but guys like him don't grow on trees like you seem to be suggesting here. And he's still developing.

Pujols career is not over.. his foot injury limited him... last year was a decent yr.. not by his standards.. but it was a legit year...

I would not bet against Pujols coming back and hitting 30+ hr 2 or 3 more times and hitting around .300... The whole.. "the guy is finished" argument after one down season is just stupid... Anyone that wants to believe Verlander can't have more great seasons, or Pujols will never be a great hitter again can play in my fantasy league next year.

"He's fast and he's a CF. He's gotta lead off." - Jim Leyland, Dusty Baker, and every other mindless manager stuck in the 1980s.
