Just curious. Is this his words or hers? Do you have a link?

I just read that in a recent ESPN article. It's his words quoting his mother's alleged response. So, may or may not be true.

By responding you now are pursuing legal action. Why not drop it?

Remember when your teachers said: There's no such thing as a stupid question? They lied!! The above is a prime example!!

Gee, maybe because he doesn't want the stuff sold? Really not that difficult to figure out. If he drops it, then the auction house gets to sell the stuff.

Again, Not True. The mom is not even involved here. The auction company initiated legal action, and Kobe has to respond to their suit against him.

Also, this is not even a normal suit. What they appear to be seeking is declaratory judgement. At this point, nobody has been harmed. Kobe has not lost his property yet; The mom has not spent or lost any money; The auction company can still be made whole. So they have filed an action, asking a neutral judge for declaratory judgement over who owns the property, them or Kobe?

I tell you who Kobe should be suing though is the writer of the articles stating he sued his mom. That is a flat out lie, which if shown to be intentional, is not protected free speech.

I'm pretty sure his parents gave him lots of assistance over the years financial and otherwise.

Never said they didn't. But if the timeline and this information about refusing money for a second house because it wasn't enough for her is true, I think this shows she's a greedy character.

This is what I got from some random site.

Kobe’s lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to the auction house. Kobe claims his mother never had permission to sell his things. His mom claims otherwise. Goldin says in court filings that five years ago Pamela asked Kobe what to do with his stuff and he said it was hers to do with as she pleased.

“Kobe Bryant indicated to Pamela Bryant that the items belonged to her and that he had no interest in them,” the auction house states in those court filings.

I still believe there is no such thing as a stupid question but there are some stupid answers. If thats true then why didn't he take his stuff with him years ago? Again is it worth your relationship with your mother to do this?

Agree with the sentiment, but the standard is pretty high for public persons, and the writers would just say they're not lawyers and didn't understand the difference, thus not intentional or reckless, much like many here don't understand the difference. Maybe initiating the suit would help bring out that point though.

How much you want to bet that the auction company wants there 450K advance back? I'm pretty sure Kobes attorneys are aware of this and advised him of the consequences of responding to the suit. BTW if you just decline to show up in court you lose so Kobe didnt have to respond.

Does anyone have a credible site that explains this? Almost all the sites are saying Kobe is suing his mom. Some say Kobe is counter suing the auction company. Which will in turn sue his mom for the 450K advance if Kobe wins.

Why is this strictly on Kobe? Is it worth ruining your relationship with your son by profiting off of his memorabilia without permission?

He has had somewhat of a tenuous relationship with his mother ever since he got married to Vanessa. His parents were against the marriage and didn't show up to it. Now she wants to sell his memorabilia not long after Kobe refused to shell out the amount she wanted for a new house. I think her character and motives certainly have to be questioned.

I was wondering why she would do that to her son but I still think its irrelevant. However, it seems like good old fashion jealousy may be the culprit. I read that Kobe bought his in-laws a multi-million dollar house but did not let his mother pick out the house she wanted.

He's the son. As the son you afford your mom certain privileges you would only give to your daughters and an exceptional wife.

she sounds like a real piece of shit. kobe has the money to buy his stuff back from her. but wow... some people. not a kobe fan, but i feel bad for the dude that his own mother would put him through this. he needs to give her a million get all his things, and forget about her.

although, forgeting about your mom is easier sad than done... Happy Mother's Day Mrs Bryant..

Privileges like profiting on your name when you didn't give them permission to? It seems like Kobe has treated his mom fairly well since becoming a pro athlete. Money, houses, cars. This is the same mom that refused to go to her son's wedding.

yeah, from what I've read, this is COMPLETELY on the mom.

She wanted 450K......he offered 250K.

It doesn't matter that she is mom.....she doesn't have a right to all the money he makes. He is not obligated to give her anything, or everything she wants/desires. Once he got married, his responsibilities to her ENDED. The top women in his life are his wife and daughters. It's his Dad's job to take care of mom.

Some of you need to get your heads outta your asses and get your priorities straight. And his mom needs to get her greedy hands a job and pay for her own house.

Basically. Besides harming his children he should let it all slide. He could have bought her a million dollar home as well and this would have never happened. Now his mom looks like a money grubbing skank. I'm sure hes proud of that. Sometimes you have to be bigger than others especially when its over material things.

The relationship between Kobe Bryant and his parents has been a difficult one over the years, but at issue is that Mrs Bryant wants to buy a new house and Kobe offered her $250,000 for all of the memorabilla and the rights to keep the items in the family. Ms Bryant, however wants a $450,000 house and is being somewhat greedy.

One of my favorite college professors made the following statement on the first day of class: "This is the point where your instructors have always said "There is no such thing as a stupid question". Baloney, there are stupid questions and we have all heard them. If you ask a stupid quesion in my class, I will point it out".

There are stupid questions. A question where the answer is obvious, such as "why not just drop it?" when dropping it means losing the case, qualifies as a stupid question.
