Yep
I would like to see us pick up some really big dudes in the middle like we had with in the Bryant years and speed on the edge which I feel we do have with Clark. Stopping the run with base D was never a problem those years.
Don't forget another unknown SDSU RB was picked 2nd overall in the 94 NFL draft. He turned out to be a damn good NFL RB.I love how regular people act like since they have never heard of a player they must not be good. Secondly people say its a reach pick well in my opinion if that player probably wont be available the next time you up to pick then he probably isnt a reach and if he turns out to be a solid player years from now nobody will care where you picked him
My opinion is that we should deal him if we don't think we can re-sign him to a reasonable contract.
If we hold on to him and don't re-sign him, that's a colossal failure IMO.
Here are his rushing statistics against P5 schools + your alma matter, assuming it's Army:
ASU: 18 carries 216 yards 1 TD
Stanford: 32 carries 175 yards 1 TD
Army: 14 carries 221 yards 4 TD
Total: 64 carries 612 yards (9.7 YPC) 6 TDs
I can't agree with colossal failure because we would be getting another season of play from a HOF caliber FS and then most likely a 3rd round comp pick in '20. I would rather see us trade him for a 2nd rounder this year, but I don't think we lose in any scenario here outside of signing him to a long term deal only to see him get a career ending injury. My opinion is that we should deal him if we don't think we can re-sign him to a reasonable contract.

The interesting thing here is that it sounds like there's a decent chance that 2018 will be the last season with kickoffs in the NFL. He can return punts as well though.A good thing about him too is he is a stud returner in case they lose Lockett next offseason
Yeah, I think Michel also going in round 1 is probably a good indicator that this was our only shot at Penny (or Michel). I'm liking it more and more. This better light a fire under Prosise.IMO, outside Barkley, he was the #2 best RB in the draft... I'm more surprised that they picked as well but Penny is obviously the guy they wanted... Not sure if he would've been there in the 2nd round... He's been climbing the draft boards...

The stats also say a QB who is under 6' is not supposed to be good in the NFL, but RW is probably the #1 overall pick if you could re-do the '12 draft with current knowledge in hand. The stats say a RB picked in the 1st and a RB picked in any other round do not have the difference in numbers to justify their positions. This has been discussed for the last week, even on the radio, which is a fluent source of info for fans, let alone for the guys actually deciding on the selections.
This team has much wider holes in more important positions and they take a reach at a skill position in the 1st round? If this kid is anything less than a star RB its another bad 1st Rd pick. Give it 3 years and then tell me I'm wrong.

I don't see the, "much wider holes" you're referring to that doesn't include a RB... I'm not as high on Carson as a lot of you are so I viewed the RB position a huge need for this team...

Good comment. Good info. Good job!!!!That's exactly the opposite of what the stats say. Every running back taken in the 1st round over the last three years is averaging 1000 yards from scrimmage and 7 TDs a year. That's better than solid production from your first round pick.
Averages per season for players drafted in the first round vs. later rounds (last 3 years):
RD 1 - 245.7/1012.8/4.1/8.0 33.5/280.0/8.4/2.1 279.2/1292.8/4.6/10.1
Other - 53.4/219.9/4.1/1.4 12.2/98.9/8.1/0.4 65.6/318.8/4.9/1.8
Those aren't bad numbers for 1st rounder. Yes, you can get a gem in the later rounds, but you also get a lot of duds in those rounds as well. For every Alvin Kamarra, there's 4 Christine Michaels. And for every Christine Michael, there's 3 Thomas Browns.
So, to top it off, numbers per season by round for the last decade:
1 - 126.8/537.9/4.2/3.6 19.6/157.2/8.0/0.6
2 - 101.1/427.3/4.2/2.7 21.7/1734/8.0/0.7
3 - 80.6/348.5/4.3/2.3 16.1/131.5/8.2/0.6
4 - 37.7/153.3/4.1/1.0 10.7/87.4/8.1/0.4
5 - 28.8/121.8/4.2/0.8 6.3/47.5/7.5/0.2
6 - 23.6/95.8/4.1/0.6 4.7/37.2/8.0/0.1
7 - 16.1/66.1/4.1/0.4 3.7/27.9/7.5/0.1
As you can see, the production drops every round.
At this point I hope we keep Earl... we’re a better football team with him, we should just lock him up and let him stay here until he retires...
