Female kicker injures quadriceps after just two kicks during tryout - ESPN

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Lauren Silberman lined up for a kick at NFL history, took a deep breath and booted the football.

It barely went anywhere, traveling 19 yards, and she grabbed at her right leg.

Still, it was good enough to make her the first woman to try out at a regional combine, even if her day lasted all of two kicks.

With the 36 other kickers -- all male -- a handful of scouts and more than two dozen media watching in complete silence at the New York Jets' practice facility, Silberman struggled for about 20 seconds to place the football on the tee before measuring her steps and then trying that second kick.

This one went only about 13 yards

kickers aren't to far from girls though. Who knows maybe there is a female soccer player out there who could do it.

I'm assuming this was written in jest.

I think he was talking about getting 20 yards, getting three kicks in before her leg giving out, and averaging above 16 yards, with 14 being the minimum. ;)

I don't know how far I or anyone of us could kick, but I foolishly gave her the benefit of the doubt at beating those numbers, at least. I knew she wouldn't make but I thought she would do well enough to be able to allow someone to write an inspirational article on her beyond a good try.

UNM had a female place kicker who kicked a couple of PATs in a D1 game. Katie Hnida.

Here's the deal, though, women shouldn't be on the same field as men. Start an all women's football league if you want to go that route (I don't think there's enough interest, from the athletes' perspective, but maybe in really big cities you'd find enough girls who want to play football to field multiple teams). By the time these young adults are in college, the disparity in size, speed and aggression between men and women is too big.

I don't think they'd look quite as cute in pads & a helmet. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

I find it hillarious that some of the women's lib' type dimwits at my college who think men & women are identically capable actually think that there are no women in the NFL because they're discriminated against. These people shouldn't be allowed to operate motor vehicles or take care of a cat.

Just for some perspective, the longest FG a woman has ever hit in an actual football game is 43 yards. That's something men would be expected to make 75% of the time.

Longest FG ever made by a man in a FG game? 69 yards.

Honestly, I don't think you could find 53 girls who would want to play, let alone a league's worth of teams.

Well, football's not for everyone. There's always... oh I don't know... X rated stuff, birthing babies, breast feeding, cooking, vaccuming, gardening. I could think of a million things they could do just great. :)

If she ever got hit(on a fumbled hold or blocked kick) she would die...she's freakin 5-foot-6!

And it would completely screw up a defensive coordinator's efforts in getting his team to focus on fundamentally sound, form tackling. They teach you to wrap up around the waist; I have no doubt she would cause teams to start wrapping up around the chest.

Oh, and speaking of things they're good at, this is probably the only thread where this gif is appropriate:

I wonder if they would have any better chance at scoring if they played on the same team against no opposition? I mean, they missed with no goalie every time, but maybe they'd improve if they did some girly work together shit?

"Silberman's goal was to try a 60-yard field goal. That thought was squashed just minutes into her tryout."

She states that prior to the regional combine, she's consistently had the leg & accuracy clear the uprights from 60 yards out. Don't think she'd embarrass herself in front of 30 reporters, especially given her self styled story, if she had not found SOME success kicking a foos-ball, due to her actually being an ex-MIT graduate student, but who knows?

This story kind of reminds of an article (and video) I encountered a few years back about the inspirational story of a 14(?) year old girl who had petitioned to play football at her high school as a WR. During one particular game, she caught a ball over the middle and was blown up by a defender. She laid on the field, crying, as she was having trouble catching her breath. The tackler's response was either "Welcome to football," or, "That's why women shouldn't be playing football."

I almost pissed myself laughing.

They only want to be men if it benefits them and when it doesn't they'll play the "well it's because we're women and we're different" card.

They'll fight tooth and nail to join a men's only establishment but oh if a man ever dared to want to join a woman's only establishment their would be a huge uproar.

Apparently, she just registered and nobody even vetted her. You can say what you want, but she just trolled people so hard that she is an international news story.
