I'm going to kick off the DL discussions...I think we landed on Stephens for OL...

I'll start with Courtney Brown....
He's another guy who was pretty good until injuries got him. I'd say for Browns Gerard Warren a much better option than CB along with Phil Taylor.

Yeah, but injuries have been a part of the criteria (though I generally agree with you)...and he was the 1st overall pick...

I don't usually hold a guy's injuries against him......other than KJC who had them already and team drafting knew. Just my opinion.

Big Daddy Wilkenson #1 overall pick.

May not be the biggest bust, but one of the Bengals candidates for sure.
Yeah, not a "bust" bust per se, but for sure a disappointment considering where he was drafted.

Had a decent 13 year run, though, and despite having injuries and such, only had 2 seasons in which he played less than 14 games, playing in all 16 more than not.

I think you could also put Pollack here as he was moved to DE from LB...but not 100% sure...of course, he broke his neck and had to retire...

Wasn't Copeland sort of the same? 9-10 years with the team? Had a 9-sack season at some point.

Honestly lookin at both the Bengals & Browns players... Yea they didn't meet their expectations for where they were drafted, but none of them flamed out or got benched. They all had "average" careers IMO. Gerard Warren is probably the only one that catches my attention. Played 4 full years for the Browns, and if it weren't for the huge rookie contract he signed he probably would have been handled differently. He was very average, but never terrible though.

I think Rivera gets a pass for his car accident…..
But it wasn't just an accident. He was drunk driving.

If a high pick player does something to end their career early, that counts as bust to me. If a player committed a murder and got arrested 2 games into their rookie season and never played again, we'd call him a bust too, right?

Yea I agree. But some context matters... He was drunk driving. And the Steelers passed on Dan Marino. Probably one of the worst draft blunders in Steelers history. Or at least the biggest "what if". Had 2-3 sacks in his first 6 games. Looked to be a great addition to the defense.

I'm not voting for him though. I think Darryl Sims was more of a bust. Released after just 2 seasons and never started a single game. Played in 16 games his rookie season but never started nor did he make any relevant impact. More of the same his 2nd year with ZERO starts. I think he might get my vote.

Agree, but I think there are multiple definitions of the word bust……

Yeah, and it's a factor in the overall story. Warren and Brown might have been bad and VERY high picks for the Browns, but they had careers.

Sims and Rivera didn't. Sims may as well have been paralyzed for all the good he did.

I thought your injury argument was still in play. That has to apply to a guy that broke his neck, right?

As I stated with KJC, I'd prefer not in general...but it seems everyone else considers this point...so yes...it would be in play.

Hard to know, too, because I think he got drafted at LB, and then moved to DE at some point...never really getting enough time at either spot to know what he might have been able to do....but going off memory here...not 100%

Difference between him and Carter though, Pollack broke his neck and retired, he didn't continue to try and play, continue to get hurt, continue to have a terrible career. He just ended it. I would call that a single injury that ended the career rather abruptly and permanent.
