I for one feel like I live in an alternate reality knowing that Geno Smith is finally gonna get that pay day he's been looking for since 2013.

For real. He looks like the guy he was hyped up to be at WVU going into the 2013 draft. Feels like yesterday Chiefs fans had to talk each other *out* of drafting Geno Smith. They ended up trading for Alex Smith instead.

IIRC, Geno Smith was actually all but off the Chiefs' board entirely in reality.

If Geno doesn’t like his offer then pound sand and sign Baker or Jimmy G to a dirt cheap or just start Luck. There’s a number of quality prospects at QB in this draft. The only QB so far worthy of a high pick in 2024 is Caleb Williams. So your plan is to count on Denver to tank again for the number one overall pick? Great plan.

Geno Smith is playing lights out. However, due to the trade of Russell Wilson to the Broncos, the Hawks will have their highest draft pick in 26 years at #3 right now, and it is expected it won't get any better with their remaining schedule and having to play the Chiefs twice.

Is Geno Smith the answer and they go a top talent in the draft not a QB, or do you draft the QB of the future with Bryce Young or CJ Stroud and keep Geno around for one more year while the young buck gets acclimated to the NFL with a year on the bench?

What is the smartest play for the Hawks in this situation?

My guess is, with the few teams desperate for a starting QB, some team will be crazy and offer a multi-year deal. Geno would be an idiot to do anything that is not taking the highest offer. He turned this year into a pay day. I don't think he is talented enough to repeat what he did this year...he has had a great year. He needs to cash in now.

I think Geno staying with Seattle is a good story so its definitely something to root for just as an NFL fan. If the NFL actually thought he could play he wouldve been a Broncos QB years ago. He went 12-18 in his career on the Jets. On a team with weapons it isnt hard to project that closer to 18-12. Seattle has weapons. Win win. There is a chance that the top 2 defensive prospects in the next draft are on that Nick Bosa/Quinnen Williams level so I think the one thing they wouldnt do is trade down. I think if a QB is enticing enough for another team to trade up, Seattle drafts them.

Yeah, I got nothin' against Seahawks fans, nor do I have anything against Geno himself. If this really is it for the guy and he finally makes a solid comeback career, the great.

Makes me think of the Case Keenum situation the Vikes had in 2017. Definitely don't wanna pay a guy big for more than a year or two max when he's been a bum for like 9 years until now lol.

Well, 1 year of it might not be too cumbersome, but my guess in that scenerio would be to have Geno's agent go out and look for a deal somewhere.
The franchise tag has a 2 first round pick price but you can agree to a lesser deal and rescind the tag. That way the Seahawk's could at least get something in return.

I'd prefer a 2-3 year deal at $28-30 million a year, and draft a QB to sit behind him for a year or two.

If Seattle wants Geno and Geno wants to stay in Seattle I can’t see Geno leaving. He’s mentioned that Pete Carroll has been the best coach he’s ever played for and It just seems that he will do whatever he can to stay in Seattle. It’s literally the best fit for his style of play. Seems like he feels some kind of loyalty to Pete and the Hawks so I think he would make sure he plays for Seattle next year. The franchise has been very good to him…

In terms of the draft our struggles are definitely on defense. Offense has been carrying us. We better be using our resources on draft picks for the defensive side of the ball

Oh I think both sides would like to work something out, but money talks and bullshit walks. If he has a strong market ( and right now he does) then the Seahawks won't be able to afford him. It nearly always comes down to money and there usually is at least one team that will over pay and despite the desire to stay a player takes the big money ( can't blame him for that). It's not necessarily the salary either, could be the number of years of the contract, the amount of guaranteed money ( this is the one that Geno will care about the most). For Geno this is a one time chance to set him and his family up financially, he's going to try to maximize that chance, I would, won't you?

Levis needs to send Josh Allen a Christmas Card. He’s not good at actually playing the game of football. But he’s a great big specimen that these guys all go gaga over. He has Regret written all over him. People think he’s going to be the next marginal football player with big tools that will become the next Allen.

I say we should definitely look at drafting a QB if the potential is there. As much as I like the Geno story to me he is a guy that realistically has at the very most 4 years left the man is 32 already and nobody gets better with age even if they didnt play a lot. I do think he is a product of good coaching he has pro bowl receivers and an awesome running game. Lets be real Geno is not taking anybody to win a super bowl and it would be heart dropping if we passed on a QB and that pick turned into the next Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes who could have been our guy for the next 12 years.

With all that being said the Texans are for sure going QB and it points at Young being the guy. so really its if we like CJ Stroud and I am a person that looks at the history at that school and unless I am wrong there has never been a QB that came out of Ohio State that turned into a franchise QB in the NFL. Our DL is a huge need right now and Jalen Carter and Will Anderson would be a good fit it seems. Pete Carroll and John Schneider in their time in Seattle has not missed on picks in the top 15.

I think history actually proves the point though. The QB prospects coming from the Alabamas, Ohio States, USCs of the world so often end up busting or being severely overhyped coming out. Why? Because those guys have amazing stats but largely because the rosters are absolutely stacked. The QB gems are coming out of schools where the QB actually has to be great because the talent around him is a tier lower. Josh Allen (Wyoming), Patrick Mahomes (Texas Tech), Ben Roethlisburger (Miami of Ohio), Aaron Rodgers (Cal)...

We should be taking school history into account, but in the opposite way. QBs from Bama, Ohio St, Clemson, and Georgia need to be evaluated with a much bigger grain of salt from the teams considering drafting them these days.

Justin Fields remains to be determined
Dwayne Haskins was a bust but I thought that going in to his career. You can see a major difference in how he was treated versus Stroud

Jt Barrett was not overhyped
Candale Jones was a 7th rounder
Braxton Miller became a wr
Terell Pryor also became a wide receiver and was a supplental choice


Bama has the better recent history with Jones and Hurts and both were late first to 3rd round selections

In fact I'd argue the opposite. Osu and Bama qbs are very much evaluated with the talent around them in question.

Fields is just such a next level athlete his grade was probably a little high for his throwing ability.
