The cortisone shot?

Sanders lost his shit, smoked copious amounts of weed to self-medicate, left 27 million dollars on the table and walked away because he didn't want to, was unable to, play.

They stretched the remaining amount.

Sanders put his money where his mouth is in re: to his mental health.

Simmons wants all his dough.....to not play.

Being a weak-minded, entitled athlete and having mental health issues are not mutually exclusive.

But, again.....

I don't believe him.

He used the mental health excuse to force his way out of Philly.

He's using it in Brooklyn to make sure he gets his entire salary this Season and that is despicable.

Larry Sanders Walked Away From the NBA and $27 Million, and He’s Never Felt Better.

Larry Sanders never even liked basketball. Simmons may not either, but he has at least put a lot more time in than Sanders ever did.

Sanders first touched a basketball court either his 10th or 11th grade year.

When he was at VCU, he got a job reffing at 5 star basketball camp while I was working there. Didn’t even know basic rules that a 3rd grader would know.

He would literally turn to me and the other coaches during the games he was reffing to ask what he should call.

Sanders was a unique case that I am not sure compares to any other.

They traded him
So, I always thought it was management's decision and they had to talk him into it.

Now, this could be revisionist history on his part because he hates Glenn...

But, he seems to have implied he was the one that wanted out.

When asked to name one decision he’d like to have back, The Big Ticket said this:

I would have gone to the Celtics a little earlier. After Sam [Cassell] and Spree [Latrell Sprewell] didn’t get their extensions, I would have left Minnesota a little earlier. I told Paul [Pierce] that, and he kind of got mad at me.

I think what you started to see out of that was in my years in Minnesota, it wasn’t working and I wanted to change it up. And I wanted to change it up and play with players that would push me to be better and be something different. I think it was time. Minnesota was starting to get to the point where it was unappreciative of what I brought to the game. I felt like the mindset of winning wasn’t the same in Minnesota. My thirst for winning and being the best in the league and to hoist the trophy was kind of psychotic, and I don’t think the owner [Glen Taylor] shared that same passion with me. I don’t really have too many regrets, but if we’re talking about on the court, I probably would have left Minnesota a little earlier.

And that’s the reality. Some guys just like what a sport does for them

That doesn’t really bother me in the grand scheme of things

It does suck for fans who spend their money on a guy who isn’t trying their absolute best

I do wonder how many of these guys actually love the sports vs love what it did/does for them

Was it Pierce or KG that said the Celtics broke LeBron? That was some funny stuff.

I never had an issue with him going to Miami. Alotta people did and still do. He carried that Cavs franchise for seven years and the roster was never really upgraded. Can you name an all star caliber teammate he played with in Cleveland his first go around? I can't.

But he's not the only NBAer that left a team for a better opportunity. Why don't you have issues with other superstars doing exactly what LeBron did in Miami?
IMO going to Miami wasn't the issue.

The way he carried it all out with a Look At BS televised announcement was the issue.

I lost any respect I had for him that night, and he's done nothing to regain any respect.

Do you think Ben loves basketball?

He's quit on every team he's played for.

I don't blame him for not wanting to risk injury playing in the NIT tourney.

But, he still quit.

What improvements has he made to his game?

He has actually regressed in the scoring department considering he is reluctant to even take a shot for fear of going to the foul line.

Imo.....

Nick Anderson had the worst case of the yips in NBA history.

He didn't quit like Ben, even though his teams probably wish he had.

So, again I have to disagree.

Simmons was way more productive on offense.

He was the better two way guy.

So, you are right about that part of the equation not being comparable.

But, I wasn't comparing their stats.

I was comparing the fact that they both quit for, alleged in Ben's case, mental health reasons.

Yet, only one of them was concerned with simply securing the bag.

While the other gave up generational wealth in favor of his mental health.

If you want another example that uses another high level athlete there's Ricky Williams of the NFL.

After a multitude of suspensions, He quit so he could smoke weed to help.cope with his social anxiety.

If I can't work and have exhausted my sick time and short-term disability, I won't get a paycheck.

Not sure why a spoiled athlete should be any different, especially when I assume he is full of shit.

I don’t care about the paycheck.

Obviously Simmons will try to get his money, as anybody would in his situation.

But while I do think he is soft, I don’t think he is faking mental health issues.

And it is incredibly awful that is the assumption everyone makes.

Not our place to judge.

No, I don’t think Ben loves basketball. But I know Larry Sanders didn’t even like it.

KG has a no trade clause, so he did need to waive it.

So both sides can now say they drove the bus lol

Listen philosophically, I know you are correct.

It's not our place to judge.

But, aren't you doing the same in regards to the 76ers?

Neither of us was privileged to be a fly on the wall.

So, you don't know that Philly doesn't have evidence to the contrary.

Just as I don't know that they do.

This is purely my assumption based on my interpretation of the facts.

1. He demanded a trade because Doc hurt his feelings, pride.

2. He didn't mention mental health until Philly said no play, no pay.

3. He had zero issues attending Nets games . But, did not extend the same courtesy in Philly.

4. Claimed to not play in Brooklyn due to lingering back issues, initially.

5. As soon as he was deemed fit to play, played the mental issues card to again justify being paid for doing absolutely nothing.

Mental Health issues are very serious.

So, him trivializing it is as despicable as Jussie Smollet faking a fucking hate crime, despite it not being a legal issue.

You know what?

I know @DJ is going to call me a cyber-floosy....

But, I really heart you.

We are proof positive that despite our slightly different Political ideologies, people aren't as different as some might want to make us out to be.

Same goes for @The Q and @tlance .

We disagree on this topic.

But, are aligned more closely on others.

For the most part, the posters on this site have been much more respectful to differences of opinion on my 2nd stint on the NBA board.
Well, I think I’ve learned a thing or two at my age and one of them is to always try to see things from more than one point of view. I passed the age thinking I could fix everything, or hopefully thinking I am right about everything, and I want as many peaceful years as I can get. I truly hope COVID made some people look closer at the things that are most important, I really think it did me. You let DJ think what he wants, you are awesome and things got a lot better around here when you came back!

This is where I think you are wrong, a truly mentally ill person would not be about the money at this point, not if playing stressed them out so bad.

You are right. If he is faking it.

But just look at his behavior over the past year.

Plenty of evidence of an unwell man there.

So, let me get this straight…

Because he isn’t just walking away from a $30 million paycheck that is your proof?

Cmon man.

Just watch, the Ben Simmons rule is coming. Throughout all of this I have seen no one, and I mean no one, sticking up for the guy. That is just part of how I know, the players association wants no part of this. I bet they are embarrassed.
