I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, and it's probably completely inconsequential, but does anyone think having a roof was something FA's considered? Knowing they wouldn't have to play in Texas heat now.
I would think that had a definite impact.

"The Rangers re-signed catchers Yohel Pozo and David García, both of whom had been non-tendered on Tuesday, and added free agent catcher Meibrys Viloria and righty Jesus Tinoco, both heading into their age-25 seasons, all on minor league deals. Viloria hit .215/.266/.287 (48 OPS+) in 201 plate appearances for the Royals from 2018 to 2020. Tinoco posted a 4.89 ERA (106 ERA+) in 46 innings for the Rockies and Marlins over the last three seasons."

I'll say this Garcia, is certainly a solid to above average CFer, but he's a dynamic RFer, would like to get someone as good in CF (defensively), I like Straw because he's still relatively young (27), cheap, wouldn't cost a ton prospect wise, and he could leadoff for us, he checks a lot of boxes

From Jeff Wilson:

The future at second base for the Texas Rangers was wide open a week ago, with perhaps as many as four of the team’s top 10 prospects candidates to man the position for years to come.

Then, Sunday arrived. Monday made an impact, too. Once the deals for free agents Marcus Semien and Corey Seager became official, the future at second base and shortstop for the Rangers was set.

Semien signed a seven-year, $175 million deal to play second base. Perhaps if Seager hadn’t signed to be the shortstop for 10 years and $325 million, second base might still be open with Semien at shortstop.

The prospects at both positions have seen massive roadblocks appear on their paths to the major leagues. A shortstop was anticipated. Both a shortstop and second baseman, though, seemed like a long shot.

What lies ahead is continued development for the prospects at both position, but they will likely also be asked to try other positions, to become more versatile, to learn reach the majors and still be productive.

The Rangers could also trade some of their prospects up the middle.

The Texas Rangers Newsletter looked at the top five shortstops in the organization last week. Next up is a look at the five best second baseman.

Their futures have been shaken up, but they’re still valuable pieces.

More from Jeff Wilson:

Justin Foscue

A Rangers official was asked what becomes of Foscue, the 2020 first-round pick (14th overall, Mississippi State) after the addition of Semien.

“He develops into a top-50 prospect in baseball,” the official said.

The Rangers remain incredibly high on Foscue, who reached Double A Frisco in 2021 despite a rib/nerve injury that kept him out nearly two months. Short on at-bats, the Rangers sent him to the Arizona Fall League and saw him hit five home runs with a .944 OPS.

Some in the organization believe Foscue could hit 30 homers in the majors and fit in the middle of a lineup. If his development track continues in that direction, the Rangers will find a position for him, say, first base.

I’m sure the Brewers called on Gallo, but now that they got Renfroe I don’t think they go after Gallo anymore.
They have Renfroe, Yelich, Tyrone Taylor and Lorenzo Cain. Pretty solid OF especially if Yelich gets back to normal and Tyrone takes off with plenty of playing time.
3 of their top 4 prospects are OF as well.

They need a 1B.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see them trade for Matt Olson

Or maybe the Rangers trade for Matt Olson then turn around and trade Nate Lowe + to the brew crew for one of their young SP.

Olson is good and all but unnecessary at this juncture, that's the epitome of making a trade to make a trade
