Bird in the hand. But yes could be considered a surprise. Signing Calhoun and Willie Rakes contract is a bad omen. And we are in on Suzuki to boot
I never understood what so many saw in Peters. I saw where Newberg was trying to point out to folks that he didn't put up good numbers at all. He used the term "romanticize" to describe what people did with DJ. I just don't get it myself. I saw him as a DFA candidate from the moment we picked him up and never saw anything out of him to change my mind.

I thought he had real good defense especially for size but way too much swing and miss. Potential is there but at some point you have to produce.

I do think Willie C has a gifted aptitude for ball to bat - maybe more than all our lineup minus new additions—so therein lies the slack but rope may be running out. Has not shown he can bounce back from terrible injury as of yet to me
Hope this year is a breakout for him

With nothing much going on, I decided to put together my 1970s Rangers all stars. I tried to make a minimum of 3 full years played here a qualification, but that was almost impossible in a few cases. Third nase is the weakest simply because our best third baseman and our best shortstop during the 70s was Toby.

C. Jim Sandberg
1B Mike Hargrove
2B Bump Wills
3B Roy Howell
SS Toby Harrah
LF Al Oliver
RF Jeff Burroughs
CF Juan Benitez
DH Richie Zisk

SP Ferguson Jenkins
SP Bert Blyleven
SP Gaylord Perry
SP Doyle Alexander
SP Jim Bibby

RP Steve Foucault

Manager - Billy Hunter

Prospect - Bill Madlock

A shout out to Willie Horton, Doc Medich, David Clyde, Bert Campaneris, Cesar Tovar, Dave Nelson, Jim Spencer, Paul Lindblad, Rich Hand, Pete Broberg, and the infamous Lenny Randle. Managerial shout outs to Billy Martin and Whitey Herzog.

He's Gallo-lite. Tons of power and great defense, but hits for a low average and can't channel that power at will. People have been conditioned to like highlight reel players (or in cases like Newberg, love unconditionally). It's great for the highlight reel but doesn't do jack shit for the standings.

Signing 2 of the top SS was once a pipe dream too?
Miracles can happen lol

A crack pipe dream, maybe. I would have thought someone was high off their ass if they said we would sign the #2 and #3 free agents.

Hopefully DH is a rotating position and not a locked in guy
of course, the Rangers will still need to give players days off so we can expect that Adolis, Seager, Semien and others will have to have full days off during the season

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, and it's probably completely inconsequential, but does anyone think having a roof was something FA's considered? Knowing they wouldn't have to play in Texas heat now.
I certainly do. If fans do then I expect players would too.
As well as rain delays

Btw Peters is not on the roster. I think Willie had more potential bat wise but he has definitely not produced. Him buddying up to Marcus S makes me think he has another year here
Kole looks to be RF
Willie is a liability in the field and if we are successful in getting Suzuki then our OF is Suzuki, Garcia and Kole. we don't need a player limited to a single position like Willie. and he has failed consistently to show himself as valuable as a offensive or defensive player

Seriously @saddles ? Lol
Not even remotely close other than the fan favorite part

Perez is coming off one of the best seasons by a catcher in MLB history and He’s about to start a 4-5 year extension.

MY was 1 year from finishing his contract and had one of the lowest OPS (.600s) of any starter lol.

Far from the same case.. far.. like really far
KC isn't going to trade Perez

So I am not allowed to like anyone Newberg likes. Ha. ( but yes his homerism stock has risen a bit high)

We all have those guys we like more than others. I know I rode the Mitch Moreland train all the way to the last stop.
