I don't think we do. It would be like getting Seager for $25 million AAV. It is a pipe dream. At least, that is how I see it.

Signing 2 of the top SS was once a pipe dream too?
Miracles can happen lol

Don't trade for Sonny Gray. Sign Suzuki and Kershaw. Don't trade for Sonny Gray. Start working out Duran and Smith in the OF. Finally, don't trade for Sonny Gray.

I was thinking Tyler Mahle

If you told me in 2 years, that our starting rotation was Kershaw/other FA, Gray, and some combination of Dunning, Alexy, Hearn, Vanasco, Henriquez, Winn or Leiter, etc.. I'd be pretty stoked about that, hell I'd be pretty stoked even without Kershaw

I agree, Bradford, White and Otto make great trade chips lol

I think Otto is destined for the bullpen, I forgot about White, but yes the point is, I'm not too interested in selling off prospects, or spending tons of money on FAs this offseason until we have a better idea of what we have in these guys, so I'm hoping for another season of patience with these guys

Now if we send off some prospects for a impact bat or lead off type, then I'm listening

Kershaw appeals to me only because he's not signing a longterm deal and he's destined to miss about 10 starts a year, and he gives the franchise some legitimacy for other potential free agents

Aa far as trade chips go, let's give these prospects another year. Then, at that point i would suggest the Rangers sort out prospects to keep, from the ones who are to be trade chips, and then take the best approach. The best approach is to keep the best and trade the rest.

Agreed, though I wouldn't mind putting together a package for Myles Straw and putting him in CF and the lead off spot for the next few years

I’m hoping the Royals “sell high” on him and we can somehow come away with him.
He looks like alot of other catchers out there, Defensive first dubious hit capabilities, a dime a dozen...

Here is an article with vague "rumors" about starting pitching being available for trade this off season for perusal and discussion purposes. And I have no doubt some of you will laugh and some will find them viable, but that's what they're for thought and entertainment...

From this article: 2021-2022 Offseason Preview: The starting pitching market

Potential Trade Partners

  • Cincinnati Reds: The Reds are open for business as they look to shed salary, and both Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray could be top starters moved.
  • Miami Marlins: The Fish have a bit of a young pitching glut which they could look to move to help elsewhere, with Pablo López and Elieser Hernandez the most likely names to be moved.
  • Oakland Athletics: They are also looking to cut salary, with Sean Manaea and Chris Bassitt potentially on the move.
  • Chicago Cubs: What the North Siders are up to this winter is less clear, but if they keep selling Wade Miley could be available and maybe they could be talked into a Kyle Hendricks buy low.
  • Colorado Rockies: Is it really an offseason if we don’t talk about German Márquez?
  • Baltimore Orioles: Perpetual sellers, they could put John Means on the market.
  • Kansas City Royals: They seem on the way up, but Mike Minor or Brad Keller could be intriguing buy lows.
  • Detroit Tigers: Matt Boyd is an interesting talent, though his health is an open question.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: Mitch Keller feels like he could be the next former Pirates prospect to break out after leaving the organization.

This one seems to be more position players available for trade but some interesting information nonetheless...

Bird in the hand. But yes could be considered a surprise. Signing Calhoun and Willie Rakes contract is a bad omen. And we are in on Suzuki to boot

He should have been gone when all of his "attitude" issues arose but the Rangers have had some luck with "head cases" in the past sooooo  The only good thing about him is "supposedly" his bat which only showed up briefly one year...

I don't dislike Jonah Heim, his defensive numbers compare favorably to some of the better defensive catchers in baseball (he's about neck and neck with Trevino), except his % of runners being thrown out
He has some power and his low average is not due to high strikeout numbers, which means there is a reasonable expectation his average will increase with experience and coaching, especially against RHPs

The other catcher could use improvement though, I like Trevino, he's just not very good, but I wouldn't hate if he started mostly against RHPs, where he's at least marginally competent
