He's been very consistent, so I expect him to stay that way. The only real variable is the new offensive scheme, and it's too early to judge so I'll ignore it.

Kind of cheating since we already got to see Stafford soar and Rodgers crumple, but I'd put Mahomes, Brady and Rodgers ahead of him and Murray/Stafford/Lamar/Allen as the guys Wilson is in the mix with under that. Murray or Stafford could make a leap into the top tier. But Wilson won't. Brady and Rodgers could both fade and I expect Wilson still wouldn't be top three. Just too much competition.

So Russell Wilson won't crack the top 3 but Matt Stafford might? You aren't even pretending to be objective at this point.

Not as weird as you think. There have been several years where Stafford and Wilson were very comparable, and I think Stafford is in a much better situation than he normally is, while Wilson is in about the same position. We've never seen Wilson on a bad team.

2019 was probably Wilson's best year, especially relative to the rest of the league. Look at Stafford's stats that year.

Some as in 2, maybe 3 seasons out of 9. Stafford is underrated but Wilson is overall a much better QB. That says it all right there, if you have Stafford around top 10, Wilson is in the 3-4 range, definitely top 5

Matt Stafford has 2 seasons where he won more than 10 games in 12 seasons. Russell Wilson has had 8 out of 9. And his one outlier he won 9. And don't even get me started on their respective playoff records.

Wilson was never on a bad team because they always had Wilson. He does the most important thing that a QB can do. He wins.

Stafford may wind up having a better year than Wilson. That's hard to say. But to say that Stafford has a chance to be a Top 3 QB while Wilson does not simply ignores both of their careers to this point. The only people that would agree with you are Rams, Niners, Cardinals fans and maybe some Lions fans.

I think Stafford v Wilson will be a nice horse race this year. You'll notice that Stafford only threw 26 times Sunday. His average attempts in Detroit was 38.

QB=wins? Hm. Brees .517 winning percentage in San Diego, .623 in NO. Warner .700 with the Rams and .473 with the Cardinals.

We don't know how bad the Seahawks would be without Wilson because he always starts. It's an unknown. But that 2019 year, Stafford was 3-4-1, which looks pretty lame until you see that they went 0-8 without him.

Do you really think Wilson would have the same wins if he had been the Lions' QB for the last nine years?

I dunno. The more relevant question is whether he would have more wins than Stafford did.

You seem pretty selective about the stats that are important.

Who cares about what if's. Stafford is finally on a new team and he is now 33. He can win a SB in LA and he still won't be better than Wilson. Wilson has been a top 3-5 QB over the 9 years stretch, stats and eye test will back that up. Stafford has not, he has been a top 10 QB for a couple years and that's it. I still think he is underrated but isn't comparable to Wilson. No reason to compare what if's, nothing we can do about the past.

We'll never know, obviously. But Stafford has no such excuse now. It may well be that their head-to-head matchups will determine which of the two gets more wins this season. We get the first in Week 5.

Much like with Brees and Warner, I think a good team will make a big difference for Stafford.

Are you talking about this year or their careers?

Stafford would have to have like four light-out seasons and a couple of SB wins with the Rams while Wilson falters for the two to be comparable. Wilson is way ahead career-wise.

This year, though, I think it will be close.

The guy has been the league for 12 years and was never in the conversation for top 3 QB after week 4 or so.

He may have a great year. There is a decent chance that the Rams will be the best team in the league this year.

That doesn't change that if you asked 32 front offices which QB they would prefer Russ Wilson or Matt Stafford, my guess is you would get at least 30 of them saying Wilson.

For this year alone it will really come down to how much impact that McVay has on Stafford's game and how much Waldron impacts Russ' game.

I think there is a reasonable chance that Waldron will be the best OC that Wilson has ever had. Both Schottenheimer and Darren Bevell were decent OCs but had some glaring weaknesses. Schottenheimer's inability to scheme around the Cover-2 last year was inexecusable.

OTOH, McVay has shown himself to be a very good OC with a league average QB. Having a good QB could really unlock some stuff.

Wilson does have the benefit of having 2 elite level weapons in Metcalf and Lockett and a very good rb in Carson, if he stays healthy. The Rams receivers are good but I'm not sure either is elite level.

1st off I dont like bashing on Stafford because he was stuck on the lions.
you know this whole season is gonna be like Christmas for him having a Rams team supporting him vs. the lions.
with that said. Wilson is definitely ranked above Stafford.
Rams were able to win games with Goff.
Seahawks would be nothing without Wilson.

Looks like your stance is softening.

Waldron unlocking potential in Wilson is more of an unknown than the Rams being better than the Lions. We'll see. Maybe this thread can become the Wilson v Stafford Horse Race thread.

Softening in what way? Regardless of their actual statistical performances, Wilson is still the better QB. Just about any football person would agree with that statement.

Stafford - 74-90-1
Jimmy G - 24-8

Stafford isn’t good enough to shine Jimmy G’s helmet.
Stafford played on bad Detroit teams with bad defenses.

Jimmy G not so much.

And Carr at 20th? LOL.
