RW has been the main reason the Seahawks win as often as they do. He's on a team where the Seahawks have been run heavy for the most part, so he doesn't get the pass attempts some QBs do and that gets reflected in pass yardage. However he's been efficient when he does get to throws and he's good for 35 to 40 TDs a season and he limits his interceptions. Wilson throws TDs and wins games and his production is when the game is on the line not garbage time stat padding that some QBs get. He's been a top 5 and will remain a top 5 to 10 for years to come.
Wilson is one of the best but also one of the most underrated. He would be in my top 5 every year, some years top 3. He is a winner

You could argue Lamar, Murray or even Tannehill over Baker but it’s not like it isn’t close. Lamar still struggles to throw the ball. Murray got a star WR and sorta regressed. He is the one that would most likely be above Baker. Tannehill has played like a pro-bowler, he’s definitely a sleeper. I think most would agree that Baker throws the best out of all of these guys though and he bounced back. He will definitely even a top 6-7 QB if he can ball this year but like I said, I have no issues dropping him back to about 8. I’m not putting Lamar over him though.

Once Lamar loses any athleticism his value will drop substantially

"One of the best QBs" - sure. One of the top three? Maybe in 2019, but no other year.

He's never been First-Team All-Pro, and only in 2019 did he receive any All-Pro votes at all.

You have to tread a fine line to be consistently top-5 and only ever get All-Pro votes once.

You want to say consistently top-8, I wouldn't argue. Top-5 is a stretch. In fact it's hard to even find a category where he's been consistently top-5 (I found two, and they're not the most exciting).
Intangibles don't show up on the stat sheet. I'm not saying he is the greatest, but I would say he is top 5 and has been most years.

I would say top-5, with making a case for top 3. The numbers back it up from a career basis. Of course it depends what your qualifiers are. Career? Individual season?

Regardless:
*Passer rating: 1 of only 4 QBs all-time with an over 100 rating.
*TDs- currently 19th all-time. Should be 13th by the end of the year. The overview is that every single player above him has between 14 and 21 years while Wilson is starting his 10th. At his current pace he will be around top-8 all-time in 4 years, and could possibly be top-3 or even 2 depending on the length of his career.
*Total yards is a bit trickier for Wilson's numbers. He is currently in 34th place all-time with 34,200 going into this season but he should realistically be in the 23rd to 25th range by the end of this season. Extrapolate these numbers over a full career and he could easily be in 5th place all time and I could see him go as high as 2nd.

If you argue that we are living in a QB "golden age" now and we can't compare eras, well, you would be right but that statement would be similar for all modern day QBs, including the ones you are rating ahead of Wilson. So it would be an odd double-standard. But maybe some other stats that seem to transcend eras might be a bit more relevant:
*Yards per attempt: Wilson is top-10 all-time. Only Watson and Mahomes are ahead of him in the current active players.
*Pass interception %: 6th all-time.
*Passing TD %: 7th all-time. Only Mahomes is ahead of him from the actives (note he was tied with Rodgers but squeezed by him based on last weekend's performance).
*QB rushing: currently 4th but should be #1 in 4 to 5 years even if his numbers regress.

All if these could be debated, and Mahomes appears to be on pace to eclipse everyone in history on virtually every stat. But he is still a long ways out. Others such as Jackson and Allen are also contenders to break a lot of records, but again have a lot of ground to make up.

Also as pointed out, leadership and intangibles are hard to quantify but Wilson would certainly be at or near the top in any way you would try to.

At this point I feel you are leaning into the potential. Hebert above Wilson? You are getting ahead of yourself. Tannehill?? You are joking right? Mayfield? I watched him throw away the game yesterday. Even Allen needs to provide more of a track record (Cam Newton won an MVP. Is he better?)

I also feel you are emphasizing single season stats over career, which is a bit questionable (again, qualifiers for the list are lacking). According to this logic, Frank Gore is not as good as Jamal Lewis because of longevity vs individual season accomplishments.

I Love Wilson and wish NE had him as QB, now that TB is gone , he is my second fav QB behind him. Easily top 5 every year and don't make me bring up Razon's 10000 posts and best 9 year career start of any QB

Well, the thread is about this year, and OP ranking him #2. The only year he might have been top-2 is 2019.

Wilson is easily top-10 every year, and for nine years in a row there are very few who can say the same. Top five career-wise among active qbs? Sure, now that Brees is gone and the hot newcomers being so young. Top five this year? Very optimistic.

If he were easily top-five every year, he'd get all-pro votes in some of those years, right? Rather than in just one?

He almost never gets All-Pro votes, but routinely makes the Pro Bowl. Which means he's usually in the 4-8 range in the minds of those voters. A couple of years a bit worse, a couple a bit better.

And no, for god's sake, no Razon posts.

After week #1 he has a 152.3 passing rating, which is over 20 points higher than the next best. A very large gap.

So as of now in this season he would currently have to be a top-2 based purely on the numbers as opposed to speculation.

Is that the metric you want to use?

Wilson has only been top-five in passer rating in four of his nine years. His average position is about seventh, with a high of first and a low of 14th.

I was curious and free time at work lol.

If you look at it that way....who is as consistent as Wilson? I mean if we look at QB rating for last 9 years for all QB's only one QB has been in the top 10 more for QB rating finishes, that is Drew Brees. Sure Mahomes and Watson could have more finishes but they have played only 3 seasons.

So not counting Mahomes or Watson and not counting Peyton Manning (non-current QB that played 12-14)...Wilson has the 3rd best average of top 10 finishes in QB rating only behind Rodgers and Brees.

But even just counting only the last 3 seasons, Wilson had a lower average than Watson. Mahomes had a slighter better average. But even then he was better than Rodgers. So again another top 3 finish.

So over 9 years...Wilson has been a top 3 QB. 1. Brees 2. Rodgers 3. Wilson
Over only 3 seasons....Wilson has been a top 3 QB. 1. Brees 2. Mahomes 3. Wilson

Something to point out. Brees never finished #1 once but finished top 10 in every season.
Rodgers finished #1 in 3 seasons but fell out of the top 10 more often but still great overall at #2.
Wilson was just very consistent.

Remember, I'm only using this stat bc it was brought up. QB rating is far from everything but a decent starting point imo

Well, you didn't provide any other guidelines or address the other listed stats, so I came up with what was available. Again, he is only 1 of 4 with an all-time rating above 100, so there is that.

Again, you list Hebert as better than Wilson based on......???? The only thing I can think of is speculation and potential.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here and putting forward points showing that maybe you should be rating Wilson higher. But I do admit that there are arguments for rating him lower also.
However after watching the likes of Tannehill, Hebert, Mayfield, and even Rodgers this last weekend I would consider that he might deserve higher rankings even in the short term of this single season than you are currently giving him
I guess we will find out over the coming months?

Wow! Good work. "Wilson was just very consistent" is exactly right.

He's basically always a top-ten guy, no matter how you slice it. But he's also not "easily top five every year," no matter how you slice it (sorry @sonnyblack65).

Definitely. Herbert I moved up because he got meaningful front line help and now has some experience. Waldron may improve Wilson's situation, but I'm not astute enough to judge yet.

If being extremely consistent is just a top 10 guy to you...then Tom Brady sucks lol. The thing is nobody was more consistent except Drew Brees...so what does that mean? It means he was a top QB and very few did it better. Consistency made him a top 3 QB over the past 6-9 years. Only guys who did it better were Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers.

I'm just giving you the facts, you can spin anyway you want. Is Russell a top 5 right now? He absolutely is. Over the last 9 years he has been CONSISTENTLY a top 3-5 QB in this league...but from this graphic he is right there at 3 or 4. He isn't just a "top 10 guy".

Herbert has proved absolutely nothing. He doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Wilson.

Could he be a top QB? Sure but one rookie season means nothing.

I don't know what you guys are arguing.
Stats or what not, but
when it comes to importance to the team. He is definitely top 5 QB every year. Many of his seasons. if he got injured or missed the season. they would a 3 or 4 win team instead of always making the playoffs.

He is up there with QBs like Peyton & Rodgers when it comes to importance to the team.
He has absolutely carried that team almost his whole career. Without much O-line help.
