I think people need to slow the hype train on Herbert a bit. He could be great but iirc he didn't beat a single good team last year. Unless you count the Chiefs backups.
Well, the Raiders were 7-6 and one game out of the last playoff spot, and the Chargers went to Vegas and beat them in OT. Something.

I do think Herbert has the potential to be in the top 5 QB conversation here shortly. He had a lot of big time throws with a garbage oline. He has a lot of arm talent. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams is a really good WR duo. I just need to see that grit that usually doesn't happen in the rookie year for anyone.

Anyways, speculating for next year Id guess:

1. Mahomes
2. Rodgers
3. Brady
4. Wilson
5. Watson*
6. Allen
7. Lamar
8. Tannehill
9. Dak
10. Stafford
11. Cousins
12. Murray
13. Herbert
14. Carr
15. Mayfield
16. Jimmy G
17. Ryan
18. Big Ben
19. Burrow
20. Lawrence
21. Daniel Jones
22. Hurts
23. Fields
24. Cam
25. Goff
26. Fitzpatrick
27. Winston
28. Zach Wilson
29. Bridgewater
30. Tyrod Taylor
31. Wentz
32. Darnold
33. Tua
34. Eason
35. Dalton

I'm giving Stafford some benefit of the doubt based on how much trade value he had. I think if Daniel Jones doesn't play as well as Im ranking him then heads are going to roll in New York.

You can't just look at wins in a vacuum even though that is of course the ultimate decider. For example look at the dumb comments about Jimmy G being so much better than Stafford above. You have to go by what you see some times. Herbert was just awesome in spurts last year. I don't get why Allen is universally top 5 or so after one great year and 2 not so great years, but Herbert comes on in his first year with no offseason and not even expected to play much until injury on a not very good team and is so far below in most rankings after how he played. I look at the two as about even.

I see where you are coming from in terms of wins. I'm being a little old fashioned in that regard.

Herbert does have Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Allen has only one season with Stefon Diggs. Both guys are working with basically one year sample sizes of good offenses.

What most people are seeing as the difference is just how good the Bills were last year. They finished the regular season winning 10 of 11 games and the game they lost was that Murray hail mary game where Allen had a clutch game winning drive that would've won the game 95% of the time. The Bills also won 2 playoff games.

I personally do expect Herbert and Allen to be ranked roughly the same in 2-3 years but I can't just ignore Allen carrying a team on his back with Diggs and tearing up the league.

I thought Allen had a decent 2019 season as well. I could be wrong. I haven’t looked at stats or such

I'm a Lions homer, so maybe that is blinding me, but I think Stafford is better than #16. We'll see. He has no excuses this year. He definitely has a better team.

I'd put him ahead of Jimmy G/Lance, Murray, and Baker, on that list...simply because he had as good or better stats then they did last year and he played for the Lions. I suspect his numbers will go up with a better team.

I don’t trust Stafford until he actually proves it was just Detroit holding him back. That’s why he’s smack dab in the middle at 16. This year will tell what he truly is. Franchise guy or stat padder.

Totally fair stance, imo.

If he is only the 16th best QB, though, then the Rams are so screwed as a franchise. It's not like they have a plan b.

Kyle Shanahan tried to trade for Stafford this offseason, so I assume he does not agree with you regarding the helmet shining.

Kyle Shanahan reveals just how close the 49ers were to trading for Matthew Stafford

He can believe whatever he wants. He’s 24-8 with a SB appearance having Jimmy G as his QB and is 7-27 with no playoffs without him. Clearly Kyle needs to focus on creating a complete team so he doesn’t have to rely so much on a franchise QB.

I’d have Ryan higher and Cousins lower, but that’s a good list.

I think it’s criminal not to put Allen in the top 3 considering the arc he is on… He was ridiculous last year

Why is Lawrence on these lists, he isn’t even going to be the starter.

I think conventional wisdom would agree with you but Ryan's stats the past 2 years kinda stink. The volume is there but you also have a volume of sacks to go with a mediocre YPA and you dont have the rushing ability that half of the QBs are bringing in the league right now. His situation being a franchise QB ending his career on a non-contending team seems a bit weird, too. Guys like Tannehill, Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, and Jimmy G are bolstered by good olines and great run games. In a sense its weird ranking them higher than Ryan who is a competent QB but I have a hard time separating the Falcon's roster from Ryan because they've been together for so long.

It seems like ever sense Nick Foles beat Matt Ryan in the playoffs that Ryans career has kinda sputtered. I'm sure this will get rmilia in here but Im not sure Ryan has much meaningful play left in him.
